    Pokémon Direct Release Information

The latest Pokémon Direct has just finished and here’s the latest Pokémon announcement news that you need to know in case you missed it!

It was an early Tuesday morning for many across the world as thousands tuned in for the latest Pokémon Direct. Never before have I witnessed so much hype as anticipation rose for the eight minute announcement. So sitting back in my Discord chat with several others, I watched as more than 116,000 people tuned in on YouTube and 30,000 on Twitch.* Then the excitement began! Be warned! The screenshots and videos have been included so there will be spoilers.

The first bit of news that we received was Pokkén Tournament DX which is exclusive for the Switch. The trailer was shown displaying a variety of the game’s new characters and capabilities. The game now features two players local multiplayer using the Switch’s two JoyCons. It also allows for local wireless between two Switch. Pokkén Tournament DX now features three types of matches: Ranked, Friendly, and Group. Players can also enjoy 3 vs. 3 matches where three characters are selected by each team. There will also be daily challenges, the ability to rewatch battles, and all the characters and supports will be available right from the start of the game.
Most exciting of all is that the original characters from the Wii U version will be included in Pokkén Tournament DX along side with Darkrai, Empoleon, Croagunk, Scizor, and Decidueye. Litten and Popplio also make their debut as support characters. The game is due for release September 22, 2017.
In addition, Pokkén Tournament DX will be featured at the Nintendo Treehouse at E3 this year with the opportunity for people to play. There will also be an invitational tournament on June 14, at 10:30 AM PT. However, the best bit of news came unexpectedly at the end of the trailer for Pokkén Tournament DX.

During the trailer, the man we follow gives his nephews presents which were revealed to be Pokémon UltraSun and UltraMoon. Supposedly these games will take place in an alternate storyline than that of Sun and Moon. During the trailer we see new outfits for the player character, what appears to be a Pikachu sanctuary, hints of new Z-Moves, and new forms for Solgaleo and Lunala. These new forms have Solgaleo and Lunala wearing what looks like the legendary Pokémon Necrozma as armor! The game will be 3DS exclusive and will be released November 17, 2017

Finally, at the end of the Pokémon Direct came one more small piece of news. Releasing on September 22, the same day as Pokkén Tournament, the classic games Pokémon Gold and Silver will be available for the Virtual Console. The games will be compatible with Pokébank as well.

Not sure how I feel about the Necrozma fusions. (I wasn't really a huge fan of the BW2 legendary fusions because they were so over designed but at least they fit into the canon plot) I think they look over designed and just odd, Moon Necrozma or Ultra Lunala or whatever they call it looks too different from original Lunala too, it's whole colour scheme has changed whereas Ultra Solgaleo's has stayed quite similar to it's original. Looking forward to the game though, there's so much they could do with the Alola region and hopefully they will do it. Hoping for a Mimikyu evolution, considering they featured it in the trailer.

Also definitely hyped for gold/silver rerelease. most likely going to get that and maybe get Pokken. I'm team UltraMoon and it's conveniently being released a day after my birthday. Perfect.

Feel free to check out my Instagram for design and art stuffs

I was actually going to play Moon when I go to Japan this summer. I figure that 14 hours on a plane is a good time to start it.

I am interested to see what this means. I hope USUM will be more like BW2.

Definitely. The last true "complete version" was Platinum, despite rumors having gone around nonstop about Pokemon Grey, Z, and Stars. And honestly, I'm okay with that. They're definitely better than the original versions of the game, but I'd much rather have a game with a new story, a remake, or honestly, no game at all than have a "complete" version. Black and White 2, even though I didn't actually like their story as much, was definitely a step in the right direction.

Despite the opinions of most of my friends and it seems most of the forum, yes I really do want to play through Alola again! I really did enjoy these games! The unique flavor it had was really enjoyable for me so I'm ready to go, especially if it's a new and unique story.

If I had to guess they're doing kinda what they did with BW2. BW2 they had two versions because obviously since it took 3 years later both Reshiram and Zekrom had been caught and so when you came along 3 years later, for it to be a direct sequel it had to coincide with the predecessor as to what dragon N had. It's purely speculation at this point but I'm thinking that this has something to do with the ultra wormholes, more specifically, the alternate world that you can catch cosmog in. If so, then it would make sense that there would need to be two games, because then technically, Solgaleo/Lunala would have already been caught by your protagonist in SuMo, and it appears that only one cosmog can be obtained per game otherwise.

Honestly I don't really want to play through Alola again, but it's a new Pokémon game. So why not? Maybe it'll be more polished and refined to be what Sun and Moon SHOULD have been from the start. It's supposed to be like a retelling of the story, but hopefully we will see more soon.

For sure I will be picking up Pokken yet again. I'll be ready to destroy them ALL with Pikachu yet again xD.

Also, I'm super curious about what all those Pikachu were about in the trailer. Pikachu park? I WANNA KNOW! XD

I love the new formes and love that they went the BW2 route. It worked out really well for Gen V.

At first I was disappointed that it's 3ds and not Switch, but then I realized a few things:
Main series Pokemon games like to keep the same console per generation. They already have everything established and it would be odd to change the formula right in the middle of a gen.

They would have to figure out how to integrate the Switch and Pokemon Bank. If we know GF, it's that they wouldn't have liked to just simply make it a port to the Switch and call it a day.
Truthfully, I don't think Sun and Moon REALLY pushed the limit of the cartridge. I think GF just didn't know how to optimize it properly, and I hope they fix that this gen. Some of the framerate drops were ridiculous.

I am super excited for this! Oh, and it's going to be released exactly one year and one day after Sun and Moon's release.
    @Coru
Ultra Solgaleo and Ultra Lunala's color schemes are based on their Radiant Sun and Full Moon formes, respectively.

I get your point but I don't think this means they HAD to make 2 whole games just for one little difference. They could easily have a choice at the start where you pick whether you played Sun or Moon previously if it's that important to the story. (Besides I would probably choose to play Ultra Moon even though I played Sun, for something different) I just feel like it's a bit of a cashgrab when they do stuff like this where one game would have sufficed. xD

This for sure. It could have been a standalone game and both could have been in it. Rather now, you need both. It is a total cash grab. A few extra things thrown in here and there too. Not much else different than a slightly different story. They didn't HAVE to make 2 new games for this at all. We'd probably have been better off with Sinnoh remakes like they've been rumored.
