    Foraminis [SUDS]

In July on 1952, thousands of families across the USA looked to their skies from their yards, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Foraminis Meteor Shower that was falling to earth. The event itself lasted a night, however the world had no idea how long the effects of the storm would last.

Unbeknownst to the world, when the meteoroids vaporized upon entry, the dust dispersed over Earth. Whilst this dust itself had no effect on humans, it affected the photosynthetic processes of Earth’s plant-life, creating a colorless, odorless gas, that created genetic abnormalities in young children.

This was first revealed 1965, when the children born in the year after the meteor shower turned thirteen, and began displaying abnormalities. A mixture of physical defects such as hardened skin, or the growth of extra limbs, whilst others displayed superhuman abilities, such as enhanced strength, night vision or telekinesis.

Within the first week of this phenomenon, the first casualties occurred, caused by a teenager who discovered they had the ability to chill the air around them, and accidentally froze their classmates.

Governments around the world focused their resources on discovering the cause of the phenomenon, six months later, determining it was most likely caused by the meteor shower thirteen years earlier and that the effect on Earth was permanent. Efforts were then focused on creating a vaccine, which came to fruition two years later in 1967.

The abnormalities manifested during adolescence, and as long as the vaccine was administered before then, the effects of the Foraminis Meteor Shower could be negated, and people could live normal lives, with a 99.99% success rate, only being ineffective on individuals with a specific gene. There were eight million children who had manifested abnormalities that could not receive the vaccine in time, five million of which had shown superhuman abilities, whilst the other three million showed physical abnormalities.

The vaccine soon became compulsory at age two, sparking protest by anti-vaccination groups, however governments didn’t budge. In addition to this, use of superhuman abilities became outlawed, with governments pushing for people to report anything suspicious, due to the slight chance of manifestation. The topic of superhuman abilities was a taboo subject, those possessing abilities earning the title of Foram.

Over the next fifty years, governments continued to regulate and monitor Foram. The number of individuals reduced over time, as affected individuals died off, with one in ten thousand born having the gene making them immune to the vaccine.

In December 2014, an individual from New York City, known only as his online handle Impact, came to internet fame. Impact began acting as a vigilante, wearing a mask and using his power of telekinesis to stop petty crime, as well as speaking openly about his abilities in online forums.

Impact broke society’s rules for Foram, using his abilities, and being open about them online. Following in his lead, dozen’s of Foram began disguising themselves, and taking to the streets, fighting for what they believed was right, and to show the rest of the world they meant no harm to them.

However others addressed their dislike towards societies attitude towards Foram with extremist acts. A group soon emerged calling themselves Demon’s Run, revealing themselves to the world by destroying a vehicle transporting the Foraminis Vaccine.

Since the first Demon’s Run attacks, governments have been increasing their efforts to identify Foram, stopping vigilantes and putting an end to Demon’s Run. However on Christmas Eve of 2017, a threat was issued. By the New Year, Demon’s Run would rule Manhattan.

On Christmas Day, Impact, as well as other well known vigilante’s posted statements online about Demon’s Run threat, whilst the police insisted that they’re doing all they can to put an end to Demon’s Run, and urging the public to report any Foram activity, be it Demon’s Run, vigilante, or anything in between.

    Name: Thomas (Tommy) Smythe (Impact)

    Gender: Male

    Age: 25

    Power (If any): Telekinesis

Appearance: Tommy stands at 5 ft 11, with a slim build and pale complexion. His messy jet black hair is medium length, however tends to keep out of his face. He has sharp blue eyes, and usually has black stubble.

His usual attire consists of a pair of jeans, a band tshirt, and a long sleeved, button up, flannel shirt over the top. When the weather cools down, the flannel shirt might be replaced with a hooded jacket.

When wearing the metaphoric cape of Impact, he wears a pair of kevlar jeans, and motocross armour over a black hoodie. A black cloth bandana covers the lower half of his face.

    History:
Tommy was born and grew up on the south end of Manhattan. His childhood was spent with a love of comic books and superheroes. Ever since he was young, his free time was spent reading comic books and dreaming of becoming a superhero himself.

When he was thirteen, his dream came true, to a degree. In the middle of winter, he walked to a store on the north end, attempting to find a Christmas gift for his mother.

On his way back, he took a shortcut through Central Park, however found himself face to face with a thug demanding his wallet and phone.

Tommy froze and panicked when the thug pulled a knife. He couldn’t move, and when the mugger thought he wasn’t complying, he took a step towards him.

It took Tommy days to process what happened next. He closed his eyes, expecting this to be the end, before seeing a flash of light, and hearing a loud boom.

When he opened them, the thug was unconscious against a nearby tree, and the snow on the ground around him was now pushed away in a perfect circle.

Tommy ran home, in shock about what had just happened, and still unsure. When he got home, he went to sleep, trying to pretend it didn’t happen.

The next morning, he realized he had been seen. A security camera had caught the whole incident on video.

Luckily for Tommy, he was wearing his hood, and had his back to the camera. The video showed the mugger step towards him with a knife, before there was a flash of light from Tommy’s eyes, and a bang, before the mugger was thrown into a tree meters away.

After the video was a phone number labelled as the Foram Information Line, and a presenter begging the public to report any information related to this incident, and that the Foram in question was extremely dangerous.

Tommy locked himself in his room for the next two days, fearful of what would happen to him if he were found out. He browsed the internet, trying to figure out what it meant to be a Foram, and learnt of the Foraminis Meteor Shower, and found conspiracy theory blogs about what happens to Foram who are caught, adding to his fear.

However he also found support online. Groups of people advocating for fair treatment of Foram, and freedom for them to be themselves. People who believed him to be a hero.

It was winter break, so Tommy had no school, and spent the next week hidden at home, waiting for the media attention to die down. A week later, the news stated that there were no leads on finding the Central Park Foram, so Tommy snuck out, taking a subway to Queens, and dumping his hoodie in a bin there.

After that, he began training his power in secret. First he learnt to life objects with his mind, gradually lifting heavier and more awkward objects with ease, eventually able to lift nearly eighty kilograms without physically moving a muscle. He used this skill to levitate himself, allowing himself to jump higher. As first it was another metre or two, however eventually he was able to launch himself onto the fire escapes of buildings.

All the while, he kept his powers a secret, making sure to always wear his hood whilst he practised in case he was seen. This went on for the next nine years.

During school, he joined the computer club, and studied programming and networking, eventually going to college to study Ethical Hacking, graduating at the top of his class at age 20.

Tommy found work with the NYPD, working with their Cyber Division.

When he was 22, and had been with the NYPD for about 18 months, got a loan and bought a loft, using it as his base of operations for his new hobby.

Covering his steps, he created a website, introducing himself to the world as Impact, the first Foram vigilante. His first night out, he stopped an armed robbery, and when he got back that night, hacked the security system of the store to get the footage, before posting it on his website, and explaining what he stood for. Foram being able to use their gifts to benefit mankind.

For the next three years, Tommy continued to hit the streets at night as Impact, stopping crime, and narrowly escaping the police, using his own position in the police force to aid in his own fight against crime, and to cover his own tracks.

In that time other vigilantes popped up, however very few of them lasted more than a few months before retiring, getting caught and arrested, or getting injured. However Impact continued, and found fame among New York City.

When Demon’s Run emerged, Impact made statements in opposition of Demon’s Run’s methods, and when he could, attempted to stop their attacks, and help with supporting the victims of the attacks. However they were never enough of a problem to be his main concern.

On Christmas Eve of 2017, Demon’s Run seemingly changed their attitude, making a public threat to overrun Manhattan. Impact since then has ceased his general crime fighting in order to focus on investigating Demon’s Run and what their plan is.

    Personality:
Tommy looks at the world and sees an epidemic of fear. Society’s fear of Foram, Foram fear to be themselves, and everyone fearing their own safety. Tommy believes that people should be able to live without fear, and fights for that, both by giving non-Foram a reason to trust the Foram, to try and create a world where Foram can live without hiding who they are, and that they use their abilities to benefit mankind.

Tommy tends to be a fairly genuine person, with the exception of his vigilante life. He tends to be honest, and forward with how he feels. Otherwise he tends to be fairly warm and friendly, avoiding conflict if he can.

Tommy is a master in his field, however when he is deep in his work, sometimes forgets that not everybody is as educated with computer systems as he is. Sometimes he works better by not explaining himself, but just being silent and working.
    Alignment (If any):
    Vigilante

    Name: Amy Richards
    Gender: Female
    Age: 29
Power (If any): Teleportation (Line of sight)
Appearance: Amy stands at 5 ft 7, with a slim build, and toned muscles from her regular attendance at the gym. Her long straight brown hair frames her face, with a straight fringe that sits above her dark green eyes.

Her usual attire consists of blue skinny jeans, a coloured blouse, and a thick woolen jumper. Her face is partially hidden behind a pair of somewhat thick, black-framed glasses.

    History:
Amy grew up as an only child, with a seemingly normal childhood. She lived with her parents in downtown Manhattan, though was born in California, living there until she was about 2 years old.

During her childhood, Amy had repeated dreams of an older brother, however her parents insisted that they were just dreams, and that she didn’t have an older brother.

However when she was thirteen, the truth came out in an unexpected way.

Amy’s power manifested in a life or death situation. Whilst waiting for a bus, she was almost hit by a car whose brakes had failed. The moment the car was about to hit her, she disappeared, reappearing meters away.

When she told her parents, she finally found out the truth.

She had a brother. Michael, who was taken away when she was two.

When Michael was thirteen, he manifested a power. Pyrokinesis. The first time he used it was by accident in a public place, with little control over it. The government found out, and because of the volatile and dangerous nature of this power, he was taken away and institutionalized indefinitely.

Though their parents tried to fight to get him back, they were threatened into silence. Because there is a genetic element the vaccine being effective, there was a likelihood that Amy would also manifest a power. They threatened to take her away as well, if they didn’t stop fighting to get Michael back.

Because of this, they moved to Manhattan, hoping to start a new life, and protect Amy from meeting the same fate as Michael. Amy was still young enough that she was easy to deceive.

Amy spent the rest of her teenage years trying to track down her brother, eventually finding him when she was 19.

For the last seventeen years, Michael had been moved from facility to facility, with records of him ‘mysteriously’ vanishing from time to time. The first few years were in high security facilities, however as the ‘treatment’ became more intense, something broke inside Michael, allowing him to be kept at a public facility, under a false name.

Amy began her search for her brother with nothing but a few photos, and his name, but finally managed to locate him in a small mental institution in Rockland County, New York.

Amy met her brother, but found a shell of a man where he sat. He didn’t speak, didn’t even make eye contact, or seem to acknowledge that she even existed.

After seeing what the government did to her brother, just because their solution to the Foram problem didn’t work on him, Amy despised them. She tried exposing the truth online, however all of her attempts were shut down, and she barely escaped being caught. It was at this time when she realized that online activism wasn’t enough. To get people’s attention, and to expose the atrocities of the government, more drastic measure would need to be taken.

When she was 22, Amy met a few like minded Foram online, and soon after met them in person. This was the first official meeting of Demon’s Run.

They spent the next few years gathering numbers, and planning their reveal to the world.

    Personality:
Deep down, Amy is a warm and caring person, and will do anything to defend those she cares about. However she struggles to find reason to care about the world when she believes they’d hate her if they knew the truth about her. Hence why she cares so much about other Foram, especially her comrades in Demon’s Run.

To the outside world, the non-Foram and especially those who believe the government propaganda, Amy is a cold b****. Whilst once upon a time, she felt guilty about the means Demon’s Run used to achieve their goals, she now understands that measures need to be taken to stop the government ruining countless more lives. She is driven to the end goal, and won’t let even her own conscience get in her way.

    Alignment (If any):
    Head of Demon’s Run
