Soaring Sky High (Flying Type Pokemon Silver Monolocke)

Not sure how often I'll update, but since I started playing my pokemon games to keep me occupied on buses and flights, I decided to create a thread for this nuzlocke since it isn't too far along yet. I'll make a summary post of the events thus far since I am a bit into the game already.

Rules:

Spoiler:

1. You may only catch the first flying type pokemon you encounter on each route
2. If a pokemon faints, it is dead and must be boxed
3. Everyone must be nicknamed.
4. Nicknames must be done in alphabetical order. ie First name starts with an A, second one with a B, so one and so forth.
5. Dupes clause is in effect. You cannot catch a pokemon you have already caught so long as that pokemon is alive.
6. If the pokemon has died, however, dupes clause does not apply and you must catch it.
7. Nuzlocke rules not in effect until after your "starter" is at level 5.
8. Shiny clause is in effect. But only flying type shinies may be used.

The Story Thus Far:

I started out with Aliyah the Pidgey, my first encounter on Route 29. She was level 2 when I caught her and it was very difficult to grind her up but once she was level 5 it was a bit more manageable. I then also caught a Hoothoot, who I named Blake, on Route 30 and got them both to roughly level 7 before proceeding. I had also attempted to get a Spearow on Route 46 but a critical hit knocked it out unfortunately. After battling a couple trainers, I proceeded to pass through Route 31. I'd come back later since Ledyba could be found here in the mornings. I caught a Zubat, nicknamed Cam, in Dark Cave and moved on to Bellsprout tower to grind. After beating the tower and some additional grinding, everyone was roughly levels 10-13, so I went on to the gym. Aliyah pretty much swept the gym on her own, outleveling her pidgey and pidgeotto brethren by at least 4 levels. I taught her mud slap after and gave flash to Blake. I then received the mystery egg and headed to Route 32. Ny this point it was morning so I was able to catch a hoppip there, who I named Dora, and head back to Route 31 for a ledyba, named Elijah.

I'm currently trying to grind everyone up a bit since the level distribution is everywhere from level 6 to level 14 so we need to even it out a bit, which unfortunately is not easy in Silver.

Oh man, this would be so cool if it was randomised. xD Interesting nickname clause. When I first read it, I thought you meant that every name you gave them had to have their letters in alphabetical order. But I quickly realised this was not the case. xD

It definitely would! I might try that in the future but for now we’re sticking with regular mode just because I wanted it on my 3DS.

Yeah I wanted some diversity to the nicknames since I tend to favor A names I’ve noticed.

Either way this is going to be a TOUGH nuzlocke just due to Gen 2 being Gen 2.

Yeah Hoppip and Ledbya are uh... tough to train due to their limited movepools and low stats. I think they'll both turn out better when they evolve but it is slow going until then. Zubat is not ANY better at this point. I can't wait to get bite or wing attack so this thing has ANYTHING other than leech life. Thankfully, as you can probably tell, Blake and Aliyah are both hard hitters so I can rely on them quite a bit for grinding.

In the meantime, I have a question for you : are you going to use Pokemon that evolve into Flying types without being Flying types themselves, such as Togepi or Magikarp?

Yes! Once the mystery egg hatches into Togepi I'll be able to use it too since it evolves into a flying type, togetic.
