    Name: Matthias Grand
Trainer Card: Matthias Grand Trainer Card
    Team Status:
    ((())) ^^^^@@@@ (())oOOo ******
    Instinct (16/16) _ Kid (14/14) _ Sniper (15/15) _ Bienie (15/15) _ Trapeze (11/11) _ Static (8/8)
    Items: Pokeballs (1), Revive (1)
    Points: 13
    Current Location: Route 203

Matthias arrived at the gym as early as he could. he figured that if he failed really bad there would be time to get back to the Pokemon center, restore his Pokemon and try again.

He gave his name and presented his credentials at the front desk.

"Roark will see you right now, Matthias. I hope you have a good battle plan, Roark has some rock hard defense!"

Matthias was stressed out. His first big chance to prove himself. he hoped he didn't choke.

He walked into the arena and not knowing how he was supposed to address the gym leader, he bowed politely.

Roark laughed, "How lovely to see such a polite young man. But now is time to battle. I hope you have brought your best! Lets go, Geodude!"

Roark sent out one of those strange floating rocks that Matthias had faced at beginner trainers competition. Instinct had done well against that so he sent her out.

"OK Instinct Knock that thing out of the stadium!" Matthias shouted.

Instinct grinned and said "Wartortle!" She then materialised a baseball bat made out of water.

The geodude swooped in for an attack and Instinct swung her bat, knocking the rock Pokemon literally out of the battling field and smacking into the wall.

Roark frowned. "So you are here to play! Larvitar tackle that wartortle into the ground, then..."

Roark didn't get to finish his second command to Larvitar, as a wet *SMACK* sounded the arena, as Instinct knocked a second Pokemon out of the battling area.

"Wartortle!" she cried in glee, waiting for the next opponent. Instinct was loving this.

"Enough of this!" Roark yelled. "Onix, Cranidos, double team that Wartortle! I want it down!"

Cranidos and Onix both came out and charged from two different direction. Matthias didn't know you could command Pokemon at once. Instinct could be in trouble.

Instinct however looked at the two approaching Pokemon and her grin grew bigger. The was a loud wet *Smack* and a crash as teh giant Onix was knocked out of the arena.

The cranidos however got inside Instict's defenses and managed to land a solid headbutt even as it took a glancing blow from the watery baseball bat.

"Instinct return! Bienie finish this!" Matthias said as he called the exhausted Wartortle back and sent out the Bibarel.

"Another water type?" Roark said hanging his head. "Who brings two water types?"

Bienie looked at the Cranidos who limping a little after being hit wait the watery bat. "Bibarel!" he said and shot a blast of water out knocking the Cranidos to the ground.

For Amy the battle was a breeze. Confident in her water type pokemon, she opted to take the more challenging of the two options. Hunter was able to solo most of the gym, the double weaknesses of Geodude, Onix, and Larvitar making them all easy prey for him. Unfortunately, however, by the time they reached Cranidos, Hunter was all out of energy and had to be swapped out for Terry. Fortunately, Terry was rip raring and ready to go, able to one shot the Cranidos with a well placed bubble. As Amy returned Hunter to his pokeball and lifted Terry to her shoulder, she smiled, some of her confidence as a trainer starting to return.

Kinnie was completely stunned. She had used only two pokemon. She returned Fiona to her poke ball and stared at it, awed that her pokemon had taken down three of the gym leader's four pokemon, and fought exceptionally even while she was tired and hurt.

'Bibarel must be one powerful pokemon.'

OOC: 5 point evolved pokemon with a type advantage are OP! xD

    Trainer Palila Rae
    Location: Orebough City Gym
    Team: Rowlett (16/16) Starly (13/13) Piplup (15/15) Wingull (20/20)
    Partner Pokemon: --
Items: 3x Pokeballs, Pokedex, Journal, Sketchpad, Poketch Plus

Palila skidded to a halt in front of the gym, giving Matthias a wave at reception, and ignoring Amy if she was there.
She was surprised to find that Neith and Sophie both weren't around, but figured that they had other things to do in the city and probably didn't run there.
She looked up and checked the board that showed how everyone was doing in their battles today.
    "Greenlights on everyone. Nice."
As Kinnie walked out Palila waved to her too.
    "Hey Skinny! Nice job!"

She grinned and stepped out into the arena.

    Opponent: Geodude
    Attacker: Piplup

    Attacker's HP: 9
    Bonus: -9
    Opponent's remaining points: 4
    Attacker's remaining HP: 0

"You did good, Pip, ya ripper! Return!" Palila scratched her head "Alright, lets go with Rowlet!"

    Opponent: Cranidos
    Attacker: Rowlet
    Opponent's HP: 4
    Attacker's HP: 16
    Bonus: 7
    Opponent's remaining points: 0
    Attacker's remaining HP: 5

    Opponent: Onix
    Attacker: Rowlet
    Opponent's HP: 24
    Attacker's HP: 5
    Bonus: -19
    Opponent's remaining points: 0
    Attacker's remaining HP: 0

"Yeah! Take that! Wooooo! Rowlet, you killed it out there!" Palila did a little dance of happiness, but then the gym leader took out one more pokeball.
"Wait, What?" Palila clearly hadn't read the gym information closely. "You've got four??"

    Opponent: Larvitar
    Attacker: Starly
    Opponent's HP: 20
    Attacker's HP: 13
    Bonus: 7
    Opponent's remaining points: 7
    Attacker's remaining HP: 0

    "Starly, return. You tried."
Palila grit her teeth- this battle was really hard. At the start Piplup had carried the team, but during Starlys turn it felt like she was just a cool breeze blowing against a mountain. She looked down at the final pokeball remaining on her team, placing her trust in the random old woman who had given her a gift.

"Last one... okay. Wingull, I'm trusting you!"

    Opponent: Larvitar
    Attacker: Wingull
    Opponent's HP: 7
    Attacker's HP: 20
    Bonus: 7, -2
    Opponent's remaining points: 0
    Attacker's remaining HP: 8

As the final pokemon returned to the gym leaders hand, Palila stood there in silence for a second, still battle-ready.
"Is that it? You got any more? Did I do it?"
While it may have sounded like bragging, the last question gave it away that Palila still didn't really know what she was doing. Her whole team was nearly unconscious, and it was the first serious battle she'd been in.

Neith took a deep breath before entering the Gym. She had briefed her pokemon on what to expect, and given them the battle plan. All that was left was for her to tell them when to move, and assuming nothing unexpected happens, victory would hers.

Neith saw that most of the others had gotten here before her. According to the records, they had all won so far too. So totally no pressure there.

After introducing herself to Roark, the battle began. First up was Escutcheon versus the Gym leader’s Geodude.

Escutcheon tanked all the rock type moves thrown at him, and cut down his opponents one by one. After Geodude came Cranidos and Larvitar, who fell as quickly as their predecessors.

    Attacker: Escutcheon the Grotle
    Opponents: Geodude
    Attacker's Point Value: 18
    Opponent's Point Value: 20
    Bonuses: -7 (Evolution bonus) -7 (Grass > Rock) -1 (Grass > Ground)
    Attacker's Remaining Points: 13
    Opponent's Remaining Points: 0

    Attacker: Escutcheon
    Opponents: Cranidos
    Attacker's Point Value: 13
    Opponent's Point Value: 22
Bonuses: -9 (Evolution bonus) -7 (Grass > Rock)
    Attacker's Remaining Points: 7
    Opponent's Remaining Points: 0

    Attacker: Escutcheon
    Opponents: Larvitar
    Attacker's Point Value: 7
    Opponent's Point Value: 20
    Bonuses: -7 (Evolution Bonus) -7 (Grass > Rock) -1 (Grass > Ground)
    Attacker's Remaining Points: 2
    Opponent's Remaining Points: 0

Eventually, Roark had only one pokemon left. Esc managed to connect with a few more Razor Leaf’s, but the prior pokemon had worn him down, and a rock slide finished him off before he could KO his opponent.

    Attacker: Escutcheon
    Opponents: Onix
    Attacker's Point Value: 2
    Opponent's Point Value: 24
    Bonuses: -9 (Evolution Bonus) -7 (Grass > Rock) -3 (Grass > Ground)
    Attacker's Remaining Points: 0
    Opponent's Remaining Points: 3

Ok, I didn’t expect to win with just Esc anyway. Recalling the unconscious Grotle, Neith sent out her next pokemon.

Despite the events of yesterday, Neith was still slightly surprised and relieved when Nemesis followed her command, flying high out of reach of the Onix’s tail. Nemesis was agile enough to avoid and projectiles sent her way, and with Neith as her eyes, swooped in whenever her opponent was vulnerable, taking out the giant worm with barely a scratch to show for it.

    Attacker: Nemesis the Starly
    Opponents: Onix
    Attacker's Point Value: 5
    Opponent's Point Value: 3
    Bonuses: N/A
    Attacker's Remaining Points: 2
    Opponent's Remaining Points: 0

And with that, the battle was over. Neith had expected Gym battles to be harder. Maybe he was going easy on her, since she was a new trainer? Either way, a win was a win.

I entered the gym, trying to not be cocky, but not expecting much of a challenge. Whilst I never beat Dad, I had years of practice against a much tougher opponent with much stronger Pokemon. And the gym system is highly flawed. The fact that they are all monotyped. One Pokemon has a disadvantage, they all do, and the typing is usually advertised. Nothing like battling another trainer, where you are mostly in the dark, and can't prepare a team.

When it was my turn, I decided to go for the harder challenge.

I managed to beat almost the entire gym on hard mode with a single Pokemon. Had Emperor been a little stronger he could have finished off that final Pokemon, but for now, he had done really well. I was curious to see what type the next gym would be and if it would pose more of a challenge? After the training with dad, how many badges did that equal? When would I be breaking a sweat?

Renny walked into the gym. He watched a couple of battles recording some stock footage. He didn't pay attention to the other trainers just the moves effectiveness. Once it was his turn he calmly set up his big camera in the bleachers. On the opposite end, he had Arnny record with his small camera. He set this all while the leader was waiting for him.

Once he was read he found a good position to focus the good camera.

" Can this lighting be changed." He said concerned about whitewash.

Once he didn't get an answer he just adjusted manually and then found his place on the field.

" I only know who you are because of a pamphlet in the lobby. It would seem like this is a second career choice which may explain why you have lost a couple of times today. I have to say I don't understand the logic of only using one pokemon type. Outside of your city there are shinxs that would surly give you an advantage over any trainers using water types. It really just puts you at a disadvantage. I hope to exploit that here today. No matter what the outcome this footage will be used to highlight what I hope is a decent first gym battle on behalf and a strong showing on yours."

After the battle, Renny had only lost one pokemon to the battle. Sadly he had evolved his start. This training sat heavy on him. Popplio had been the right size and height for filming. He would need to adjust the storyboards.

    Looking at the leader.
"It's like a said. One Water-type can take out most of your pokemon. Your Carnidos only survived by my calculation by a mere breath of air."

    Renny fixed his glasses
" One pokemon at Val's strength simply shouldn't be able to do that. The gym should consider auditions"
