"I Dream of Skarmory": A Pokemon Silver Version Nuzlocke with Entirely Too Many Rules

Title may be subject to change, but I kind of like it.

Anyways, first post will be kept up to date as things develop, but in the meantime:

The Rules

If any of my Pokemon faints, it is considered dead and must be released.
Only the first Pokemon encountered in each area can be caught.
If the first Pokemon encountered is a member of the same species or evolutionary family as a Pokemon that has already been captured and is not deceased, it cannot be captured, but it still counts as an encounter.
Event Pokemon count as an encounter for that area, e.g. you can trade for a Machop, get a Pokemon from the Game Corner, or receive an Eevee from Bill, but can choose only one.
Pokemon with the same type as an undefeated Johto Gym Leader cannot be caught, but still counts as the encounter for that area.
Play can only proceed while it is night-time in game. Call it "the vampire rule".
In important and official battles (read: Not Team Rocket), the number of Pokemon used on each side must be the same. (Need to decide whether to only allow myself five Pokemon when facing the Elite Four, but that is a while off. Also need to decide which trainer battles this applies to. Kimono Girls: yes. Youngster Joey: maybe not?)
There will be no purchasing of items, period. Only what has been scrounged up can be used, and items can never be used during a battle.
Battle style will be "Set".
"There's no running from a battle!" Ever.

The First Night

After an abortive first attempt, I started a new game in Silver Version and picked a Cyndaquil, who I named Ezra, as my starter, because there is no shortage of water-type Pokemon in Johto and although Chikorita is my favorite starter of all time it would be a very short run if all I had was her against Falkner. I made my way to Mr. Pokemon's home, carefully nurturing Ezra's interests in tackling and not being killed. This time when I fought my rival, my Pokemon would be at level eight.

I toppled the dastardly Bluto and his Totodile and then made it back to my hometown to find out that this rude youth was actually a Pokemon thief! Red-heads are so wacky! But there wasn't much time to linger on that. I received my Poke Balls, told my mother in no uncertain terms not to touch my money, and set off looking for Pokemon that my arbitrarily restrictive rules will not let me catch.

That proceeded to happen five times, as detailed in the first post. Most of it was unavoidable, but if I had put off dipping into Dark Cave until after I beat Falkner, I could have grabbed a nice Zubat. As it was, I was hoping to find a Geodude, but no Geodice. As soon as I hit Violet City, I made a beeline to the Pokemon Gym and aggressively took out the gym trainers until Ezra was at level twelve and learned how to set things on fire. Equipped with a Berry, I figured that we might as well go all the way and challenged Falkner, one Pokemon on two. It was a close call, especially with the Mud Slaps, but my Cyndaquil emerged victorious.

Lest you begin to think that this is turning into a single Pokemon runthrough, I had an incredible stroke of good fortune, and I'm not talking about the unhatched Togepi egg. Although there are many benefits to choosing Crystal over Silver Version, such as the Odd Egg, access to evolution stones, and early-game Poliwag, none of that could compare, in my mind, to the great missing piece of Crystal. Mareep, the lovable electric sheep! One was my first encounter on Route 32, and I caught him and named him Toby! Now my success is all-but-assured!

I skipped over a lot of trainers, including the entirety of Sprout Tower, so my question for you is: should I try to grab some new Pokemon in Union Cave and with the Old Rod before going back to clean house with those missed trainers? Or should I get Toby the Mareep caught up first?

@Kentucky Fried Torchic Congratulations and thank you for the update! If I were you, I would train Toby first because he can evolve at level 15. Good luck with your adventure!
