[SUDS] Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Lost in the North

    INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the world of Pokémon!

There are many continents within this world, with the five notable ones being: the Air Continent, the Water Continent, the Grass Continent, the Sand Continent, and the Mist Continent. However, researchers recently discovered the existence of a sixth previously hidden continent, dubbed the Mystery Continent.

Tucked away in the northern reaches of the world, this continent has had a rumored existence for millennia, with many ancient tales of the powerful Pokémon that dwell there. Many have ventured to this continent but seldom return to tell the tales of what they discovered. Since constant and unyielding typhoons surround the island, a combination of luck and skill is required to make it to the island. And then once you are there even more is required to get off the island and safely return to the continents from whence you came.

However, this has not stopped ambitious explorers and researchers from attempting to reach the continent. Rumors of untold riches and power tucked away in the caverns of this continent are enough to draw any Pokémon, whether it be out of confidence or desperation. Though the guilds made it clear that any teams who attempted these missions were on their own. The Mystery Continent is too far out of range from any of the guild’s outposts, meaning escape orbs and badges would not work to return from the continent, and it was too dangerous to continually risk the lives of rescuers in order to save every daredevil that ventured northward.

But this all changed one crisp Autumn morning, when the head of the Bounty Hunter’s guild in the Sand Continent sent out a distress call to the guilds on the other continents. It was an alarm that hadn’t been heard since the days of Dark Matter and had only ever been used four times throughout history.

    This was a Doomsday alarm.

The seer Xatu had rushed to the guild that morning, exhausted and barely able to stand. During the sunrise that morning, he had had a vision, one that once again foresaw the end of the world as they knew it. While he could not decipher what the cause would be, he could pinpoint the origin of that danger: The Mystery Continent.

Now faced with little other options, the guilds of the world created an elite force of teams to send to the Mystery Continent in hopes of stopping whatever danger is set to arise from there. Boarding the S.S. Latios, the elite force waved their goodbyes as they departed from the ports on the Water Continent and ventured northwards towards the Mystery Continent.

The typhoons and storms were worse than anticipated. Even with the S. S. Latios being the finest ship ever made, meant to withstand even the toughest storms, it did not last long against these winds. The entire ship was ripped to shreds and its passengers cast into the ocean, their fates left uncertain.

    CURRENT SITUATION

Though the currents are dangerous, they also proved to be the saviors of many members of the elite four sent to explore the Mystery Continent. Many began to wash ashore on a small beach where they were greeted and tended to by a small village of Pokémon. Though there are still those unaccounted for, many of those on the S. S. Latios seem to have escaped with their lives and only minor injuries.

After explaining the situation to the inhabitants, the elite force members were shocked to find that they already seemed well aware of the oncoming doomsday event and had been for a while. As it turns out, humans had been arriving on the shores of the island for many months now, all speaking of a grave danger that was set to come. The inhabitants had tried to send warning to the other continents, but not much made it past the typhoons these days, so they focused their efforts on supporting the humans, and now the elite force, as they brave the dungeons to find out exactly what is going on.

Your current goals are as follows: Locate the missing members of the Elite Force and reach the end of the Lake of Mysterious Light dungeon.

    YOUR ROLE

You can play one of three characters in this setting: a member of the Elite Force, one of the humans sent for this mission, or an inhabitant of the Mystery Continent.

Members of the Elite Force can be solo members or full on teams. They will have to be members of one of the five guilds meaning they’ll have a specialization outside of basic guild training. They can be: Explorers, Rescuers, Bounty Hunters, Researchers, or Merchants. Typically, members of the Elite Force will be rather strong, as they are veterans of their fields. This means that they’ll know their way around in terms of how to use items and moves, and will also be possibly fully evolved (though not necessarily), but definitely adults. The guilds would not send anyone that is a minor so keep that in mind when making your characters. These characters also can be humans turned Pokémon, but they cannot be humans sent for this specific crisis, and as such will lack any sort of knowledge beyond what the general populace knows.

Humans sent for this mission will be fresh off the boat. They’ll likely be the basic or first stage Pokémon like Torchic or Pikachu, though they can also be single stage Pokémon like Emolga as well. They need to be at least 12 years of age but other than that there’s no real limit on their age. As they are new to this world, they will not have much mastery of their moves, abilities, etc. Though depending on how long they’ve been there, some may be more experienced than others. Humans in this category can have been in the world for a maximum of six months at this point. Important to note, how much your character remembers from their human life is to your discretion. At minimum, they remember absolutely nothing aside from basic things like eating, sleeping, walking, etc., and at maximum, they can retain some important memories from their past life, such as a memory of a loved one or a major life event. Humans will also likely be part of the makeshift guild that has formed on the island, though that is not a requirement. Finally, periodically while they are asleep, all humans from this crisis in particular may receive a dream giving them guidance on their mission. Important to note is that they have been sworn to secrecy about these dreams, as the mysterious voice behind them threatens that if they speak of it, they will lose their ability to access these guiding dreams forever.

Inhabitants of the island have some of the most flexibility. People have been successfully reaching the Mystery Continent for thousands of years, so the small town that most of the inhabitants live in has a very diverse cast ranging from people whose families have been there for generations to new inhabitants that just shipwrecked a few weeks ago. It’s also possible for some of the inhabitants to be humans turned Pokémon as well, but again they wouldn’t be ones summoned for this crisis in particular. This one’s really just open for interpretation so if you have any questions as to what will and won’t fly just ask.

I will be controlling mostly the NPCs and the important figures listed below.

    IMPORTANT FIGURES

Vice Guildmaster Amadeus - Standing at 5’5, Amadeus is the Vice Guildmaster to the Explorer’s Guild on the Water Continent. He is a Gallade capable of mega evolution and has been a member of the guild since before the previous Guildmaster stepped down. As Vice Guildmaster, his main role was to train new recruits and he’s often been equated to a drill sergeant with how unyielding his training regimen is. However, the results speak for themselves, with the Explorer’s Guild known for having some of the strongest and most well trained recruits in the five continents. Notable for his quick thinking and strong psychic abilities, he acts as a relayer between himself and other teams, using his telepathy to pass messages to those within a certain radius.

Vice Guildmaster Silvester - Standing at 2’03, Silvester is the Vice Guildmaster to the Rescuer’s Guild on the Air Continent. He is a Whimsicott originally from the Grass Continent who formed a rescue team with the current Guildmaster of the Rescuer’s Guild. The two are the founders of the Rescuer’s Guild on the Air Continent, having initially established it as a Rescuer’s Outpost of the Explorer’s Guild. Now, many years later, they are the leaders of the bustling institution. Silvester is a bit on up in his years and hasn’t been actively out in the field in a long time, mostly handling the paperwork and other financial duties of the Guild. But when a call came for someone to lead the Rescuers in this expedition, reportedly he volunteered eagerly, a youthful glint in his eye as he took on the role. Silvester mostly plays the role of a strategizer. He’s great at making plans and has successfully negotiated many hostage situations. What he lacks in battling skill he makes up in his ability to direct and adapt to changing situations.

Ace Rank Bounty Hunters Maytal and Eijro - Standing at 3’11 and 3’07 respectively, Maytal and Eijro are currently acting as the de facto leaders of the Bounty Hunter squad due to the Vice Guildmaster being among those still missing from the shipwreck. Maytal is a Seadra originally from the Sea of Wonders whose sharpshooter skills landed her a place in the Bounty Hunter’s Guild on the Sand Continent. Partnered with Eijro the Ariados, the two quickly scaled the ranks and earned themselves the title of Ace Rank. While Mayta and Eijro are not the highest ranked members of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild, they are the highest ranked members currently accounted for, making them the leaders for the time being. The two are both glass cannons, able to dish out a lot of pain quickly, but not able to take much back blow themselves. They also lack really any form of leadership skills, being the only two members of their team, so this has left them underprepared and unqualified for their current situation, though they’re trying to make the best of it as they can.

Guildmaster Tamila - Standing at 3’07, Guildmaster Tamila is a no nonsense type who prefers to act first and ask questions later. As the newest leader of the Researcher’s Guild on the Grass Continent, this Liepard still has the adventurer’s bug in her, so even though most other guilds were sending their Vice Guildmasters, Tamila jumped at the chance to get out of the stuffy office and back into the field. As a researcher, Tamila focused on studying the dungeons themselves and how they act. Her studies ended up providing breakthroughs when it came to detecting patterns on dungeon formation and allowed for quicker navigation to complete missions as a result. Tamila is a fierce battler as well that acts somewhat recklessly. Reflecting her act first ask questions later mentality, she tends to go for the throat when battling and doesn’t yield until someone pulls her off or she deems the battle over.

Vice Guildmaster Vanya - Standing at 2’10, Vanya is the Vice Guildmaster for the Merchant’s Guild on the Mist Continent. Though nothing can be said for sure, many rumors state that the Glaceon is actually a former pirate and avid treasure hunter who only abandoned her ways after meeting the love of her life, the current Guildmaster of the Merchant’s Guild. When asked about it, Vanya usually just sorta laughs it off and winks, seeming to indicate the story is true, but that she can’t verbally confirm it for reasons unknown. But even if it weren’t true, her large number of piercings and gold teeth could give that idea to anybody really. Still, as much as Vanya loves her partner, the call of treasure is said to be like a siren song to her, so she departed eagerly towards the Mystery Continent to discover what untold riches await her. Vanya seeks adventures and thrills and while she might seem cold and cutthroat, a glass of ale is the surest way to her heart. She also notably has a soft spot for children.

Village Leader Raleigh - Standing at 1’0, Raleigh has been the leader of the village on the Mystery Continent for as long as most of the inhabitants can remember. The Shaymin took over for the previous leader many decades ago and has ensured that crop yields were steady enough to sustain all the inhabitants of the island, even amidst the waves of new community members. Raleigh has agreed to lend his support to the Elite Force and the newly arrived humans in whatever ways he can, on the promise that the village inhabitants who do not wish to be involved remain unharmed. Raleigh also acts as the leader of the Island Guild, which serves as a sort of all purpose hub for any teams on the Mystery Continent.

    The Map
The world this story takes place in is for all intents and purposes one in the same with that of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon and all other PMD games. The events of the games took place in a singular linear timeline with PSMD being the most recent and Rescuers being the oldest. That said, knowledge of these games or the locations in them is not required for this roleplay.

You can find a map of the whole work here. You can also find a small map of the Mystery Continent specifically here. Though I will be working on a more up to date version of the latter map to give a better feel for locations.

    Rules

    • The usual PXR rules and Roleplay Board rules apply.
    • Be kind, courteous, and respectful to your other players. Remember they are not their characters and their character’s decisions do not necessarily reflect their own morals/worldview.
    • Content is meant to be PG-13, no over the top blood and guts.
    • Try to refrain from sexual themes, vulgar language (a few mild obscenities are ok), and other not-nice stuff like racism.
    • No crazy god-modding with your character or their Pokémon. You’ll have somewhat of a free reign within the dungeons themselves but remember that each category of character has their own limitations.
    • Please don’t bunny (control) other people’s characters unless you have their permission. That just means don’t have them do something the person controlling them didn’t have them do.
    • Please use a header at the beginning of each of your posts that has your character’s name (handy if you’re making multiple characters) and their location on the island (this will help others locate you for interactions).
    • You are welcome to have one mythical Pokémon character in any of the categories listed above, but no legendaries.
    • If you have any questions, ask me first. If I say no, that means no. Don’t push it.

I have not forgotten about this!

    Name: Sasha Nightdash
    Age: 32
    Gender: Female
    Role: Elite Force member
    Species: Furret
Appearance: As a tomboy-like Furret that has no qualms about getting dirty, fighting dirty, and charging into trouble head-on, her appearance fits the bill. While still retaining a flair of that natural cuteness that every Furret has, Sasha’s distinctive features include patches of frizzy fur, a small frock of hair over her right eye, and she wears a black bandana and a necklace that slightly resembles dog-tags.

Due to experience with physical fitness training, she’s a bit bigger than most other Furrets and a lot more combat capable. Meanwhile, her eyesight is very good and she’s perceptive in ways other Pokémon may not be. These traits have allowed her to be an effective bounty hunter, though she’s not very good adhering to the orders of others, even her superiors. Meanwhile, accuracy and precision are her strongpoints, so naturally she is quite excelled at attacking from a distance and her body and form allow her to get into tight spaces but still gain a good vantage by standing upright. Whatever spaces she can’t climb or get to, Axel the Emolga will go to get the intel she needs.

Personality: If you’ve ever seen Wreck-it Ralph, Sasha is very much like Sergeant Calhoun.

Sasha is tough, gritty, and a genuine hardass that hates excuses, incompetence, and screwing around. As a result, things are strictly mission-focused and all actions follow a well-thought-out tactical playbook. Knowledge and situational awareness about her targets are crucial and she often wants the “sitrep” (status update) on what the situation is. As a result, not too many Pokémon truly love having her in command. She’s hard like a drill Sergeant and while she’s effective and will whip you into decent fighting shape, you won’t have a fun time. In the meantime, she won’t ever sugarcoat anything. You will get the cold, hard, very blunt truth every time and no consolation prizes or participation pins to go with it. With her around, you’ll learn to bend or you’ll break. You will be belittled like a drill Sergeant and either you will take it and own it until you fight and strengthen yourself to prove otherwise… or you don’t make the team. Plain and simple.

Sasha also isn’t one for negotiation and stands her ground with her demands. In the meantime, she sees the value of stealth, but to an extent. She likes the first strike advantage in combat, but once the cover is blown, she doesn’t care how much noise, ruckus, and collateral damage goes down, it becomes a “by any means necessary to get the job done” approach.

History: Sasha was born as a Sentret on the Sand Continent, born to a family of Nomads called Browndust. As a child, survival and daily living were difficult and she learned to cope as Nomads almost never lived any kind of sheltered lifestyle, often on the move pursuing survival opportunities while defending themselves from raiders and other tribes. Her father, Setko, is a renown Mienshao that was a very combat capable bodyguard for the Browndust caravan traders while her mother, Sayomi, is a specialist weaponsmith that supplied the Browndust soldiers with whatever close-combat or long-range weaponry they needed to supplement their Pokémon attacks and abilities. In the meantime, Sasha also has two brothers, Deklo and Ekras, both of which currently have followed their father’s line of work as caravan body guards throughout the desert lands.

As a child, Sasha was quick and ruthless to defend and stand her ground with street credibility. Other kids, especially boys, attempted to take advantage of her and saw her as weak just because she was a girl. But those who attempted to steal her things, do harm to her, or ridicule her ended up on the ground with a mouthful of dust and sand to chew on. To this day, she has kept this signature of making her bounty target get a mouthful of the dirt or sand where they experienced their takedown.

Sasha didn’t join the Bounty Hunters until she was very late in her teens. Money with the Browndust got tight and they had come down hard on her for the family’s debt, most of which was incurred by medical care for her brother Ekras as a result of being crippled in a caravan accident that Sasha still believes to this day wasn’t his fault despite Ekras trying to cover for the one who was truly responsible for it. As a result, she needed to seek outside employment, so after finding a career she excelled at, a sizeable portion of her income was sent back home.

After hearing the Doomsday Alarm, Sasha gathered her team and prepared to join Maytal, Eijro, and the others to find out what had become of the guildmaster and their second in command. Sasha is hellbent on finding them and extracting them from the mission site, though her ability to acknowledge Eijro’s orders is on shaky grounds at best as she personally believes she can command this operation better than they can based on her experience as opposed to their rank seniority. She’s dead-set on proving it with her team and anyone else willing to be in compliance with her high expectations even if this may deviate from the original plan.

    Guild Affiliation: Bounty Hunter
    Ability: Keen Eye
    Moves:
    • Hyper Voice
    • Ice Beam
    • Thunderbolt
    • Flamethrower
    • Thief
    • Shadow Claw

(Man, Furret has such a nice movepool! XD)

Other: Sasha’s usual team companions are as follows:

Cray the Greedent – Most Greedents have a cheeky, jolly, happy nature to them. Cray is not like most Greedents. He is one of the very rare few Pokémon that meets Sasha’s high expectations and standards as he supports Sasha’s leadership with the same kind of military-like discipline that Sasha promotes and expects out of all those who follow her. Though he knows it’s a high bar to adhere to, he has seen the effectiveness of this kind of tactical battle standard and he believes the entire Bounty Hunter Guild would do well to adopt it. He also has high respect for Sasha, truly believing one of these days, she’s bound to be the new Guildmaster and all felon Pokémon are going to rue the day that happens. Personality-wise, Cray can be loud and boisterous but is to the point and is always on task.

Axel the Emolga – Axel is the only other semi-permanent follower of Sasha, committed to being Sasha’s eyes in the sky and reconnaissance expert. Like Sasha, Axel has a keen eye, attention to detail, and his personality aligns with a stealthier approach. Sasha relies on his intel quite often and he meets her expectations of strict military discipline and precision. Occasionally Axel and Cray disagree on approaches and what the intel says, but they will adhere to Sasha’s final decision. Like Cray, Axel also anticipates seeing Sasha as Guildmaster in due time, believing her skills, prowess, and tactical experience will get her to the top regardless of what other ranks other Pokémon in the Bounty Hunter Guild have. Like Sasha, Axel doesn’t recognize Eijro as the de facto leader of the Bounty Hunter Guild, and would sooner follow Sasha’s orders despite what the current chain of command dictates.

Dunno if this RP is still going to happen after all this time, but I found this in my notes and since it's already finished I thought I might as well post it just in case.

    Name: Abigale “Cetra” Fleche
    Age: 18
    Gender: Female
    Role: Human
Appearance: Cetra appears as a Vupix with brighter colours, her body more a brick red, while her mane is pumpkin orange.
She has a faded yellow scarf that she got as a gift from the guild that she wears whenever on mission as a kind of uniform.
Psysically she looks closer to the species Alolan cousin, with a rounder face and fluffier mane/tail.
She is blind in her left eye, which is a dull grey unlike her bright yellow working eye.

Personality: Cetra has low self confidence, and desperately needs to feel needed. She feels she has to prove herself to everyone, as such she’s the first to volunteer for anything she can do, often taking on too much and overexausting herself.
She doesn’t take well to others taking over from her after failure, and refuses to ask for help, even when it’s obvious she needs it.
If she messes something up she tends to focus on it too much and make more mistakes, easily spiraling out of control.
She’s also a bit of a hoarder, struggling to abandon things, and likes collecting junk on the off chance that it might be useful later.

History: Abigale she didn’t make many friends in school, and tended to stay to herself, not wanting to drag others down or show weakness to them.
After graduating, despite her best efforts she couldn’t find a job. She took each rejection to heart, and after enough she stopped trying, as she couldn’t handle failing anymore. While she kept up the pretenses of job hunting, instead she spent much of her time playing video games, feeling better doing something she knew she could succeed at, spending more and more time on them as she tries to lock herself away. Most of her time was spent on multiplayer games, where she is known as her user tag Cetra.

She has no idea how she got to the Pokemon world, she simply woke up one day in the middle of the beach, barely remembering anything. She recalled she has a family, but they are just shadows in her mind. She can’t even remember her own age. All she can fully recall is someone calling her “Cetra,” which she believes to be her name. After wandering aimlessly for almost an entire day, she came across villagers who took her in, informing her that she wasn’t the first human-turned-pokemon they’d seen. After a few days of feeling confused and useless, she joined the island’s guild, both to help out and potentially find clues as to how she had ended up on this “Mystery Continent” in the first place. As a guild member Cetra mainly does solo missions, both wanting to prove she’s useful, and to hide her potential failures from the others and appear more capable.

    Guild Affiliation: Island
    Ability: Flash Fire
    Moves:
    Hypnosis
    Power Swap
    Frustration
    Ember
    Safeguard

Other: Nothing else I can think of for now.

This is still going on?! Holy moly you can count this butt of mine IN.

Name: Mariyoka (Prefers Mari as a nickname)
    Age: 35
    Gender: Female
    Role: Elite Force Member
    Species: Hawlucha
Appearance: When it comes down to the basics, Mari is your typical Hawlucha with very minor changes. There’s scars over her body from many difficult expeditions, her feathers are longer (reaching down to her ankles, and the tuft on her head is smoothed down and curly. Her usually normal orange and yellow eyes are actually an emerald green and cyan instead, plus her little markings on her feet are larger and stretch up to her knees. Everything else seems about normal.

Personality: To put it simply, Mari is no nonsense when it comes to everything and anything. She’s stoic most of the time and primarily focuses on her work, never even considering taking a break if anything seems to hold even a fragment of importance for somebody. Honing her abilities over many years has also made Mari quick on her feet and able to come up with ideas in a flash, although she does admit defeat quite easily if these plans don’t quite succeed. It’s also worth noting she leaps before she looks quite often but can easily retrace steps if it’s required for the greater good.

History: Quite a long time ago, Mari was born in the Air Continent’s Baram Town during quite unsteady times. Not quite when some turning to stone nonsense was happening, in fact quite a while before. Mari was raised by an Altaria and Leafeon duo, and not once did she mind that her parents weren’t even Hawlucha like her. Family was very much family, and she was very content with that fact.

It turns out the Leafeon was a retired guild member and once he deemed Mari ready, he had began to train her in the art he knew best: adventuring. He took her all around Baram Town, showing her the ins and outs of the area and as Mari grew older the training expanded across the whole Air Continent in general, which both she and her father were happy about. Even after her father had to settle down due to old age, she had continued to explore in his honour.

She had found her calling one day when exploring a run-down area she can’t quite recall, but she had stumbled across a small group of young Pokemon: a Bounsweet, Goomy and Wooper; all stuck in a somewhat deep pit and fairly injured. Not once did Mari freak out or slip up her actions, as she just carefully got the trio out of the hole with decent speed and care before escorting them back to Baram Town. After that day, the idea of saving Pokémon in need had really struck a chord with Mari and so she had waited a few years after training more before joining the Lively Towm Guild as a skilful Rescuer.

And skip forward a few years, upon hearing of the expedition to the Mystery Continent she had bravely stepped up to assist the mission in any way she deemed necessary. Even with concern thrown her way, her unwavering spirit had made her go along with the mission regardless if she came back in one piece or not.
    Guild Affiliation: Rescuer
    Ability: Limber
    Moves: - Aerial Ace
    - Hone Claws
    - Submission
    - Fire Punch
    - Cross Chop
    - Flying Press
    Other: Not really, nah.

Everything looks good except you didn't specify a guild affiliation? Could you clarify that real quick? Once that's set, you'll be good to go!

Huh, I put this off way too long. I'll reread over this and make mine up asap.
