Yeah there's tons of reenactments here in the states. Mostly I see them based on the Civil War. I actually remember seeing on start when I was young, but we were leaving at the time it started. I just remember a lot of gunshots, smoke, and the like. Parents trying to tell me it wasn't real and it was for show. I was old enough to understand back then. Those are more historical like you said and not fantasy.

Enjoy he cold while it lasts! Always seems to go by so fast. Especially where I live where it hardly gets cold even in winter.

    The time is upon us...

I know there are huge wars in the US, called like, Pennsic or something? But I guess it's more historical reenactment rather than like fantasy with fairies n stuff? I'm not totally sure.

Ah, it's getting colder here and I'm so happy to sleep long hours in my big fluffy pjamas wheeee~
    Summer sucks, my condolences.
For the Renaissance Faire in New York, it's a blend of the more authentic Renaissance stuff on one side, but there's also the fantasy side of things where you're more than welcome to do some Live Action Role Play (encouraged, even). There's a whole faerie forest with an activity thing for kids in there. But yeah, in addition to all the other stuff I mentioned, they have theme weeks, costume contests (I won one year!), special events, and lots of other fun things. So glad they're bringing it back this year.

Also, I miss the cold. I can't wear my Pokemon kigurumis (onesie pajamas) if it's hot out and we've hit that point where I can't wear them for longer than an hour without sweating (and I had JUST gotten three new ones, too). Now we've got bugs, allergies, heat, sweat, sunburns, lawnmower noise, and all that fun jazz to contend with. Hey, November, anytime you're ready...

Around here, November can be pretty chilly. Usually it's around the 30s.

I feel like October used to be cold, but lately it's been much warmer. But hey, I'm ready for December, too. Wearing my Umbreon kigu all Christmas day was pretty nice.

Oh gosh, civil war reenactments sound scary! I can't imagine it easily... I dont think I'd like them tho. Explosions irl are not my jam!

Fantasy ren is so fun! I would definitely go to that. Fairy forest!! Did you win a contest for being a fairy, or for something else?
Theres a midwinter apple cider festival coming up near my town, and people dress like spooky bog monsters and fae, wear skulls and horns and tangles of vines- they have a costume contest there, and a storytelling one! And fortune telling, bands, big burning of apple themed things, and crowd chanting to apple trees n stuff. I've never entered either, but I always love to dress up and drink around the bonfires listening to spooky tales.
Just imagining if it was cold again~ what costume would you dress up in for a vaguely pagan midwinter bonfire?

Luckily they weren't using explosives xD. But yeah here in the south (south United States) a lot of war re-enactments are pretty popular.

Yeah I remember as a kid it actually used to get cold here. I'm talking I remember days were we were in the single digits and would snow at least once a year. Now we don't even his the teens and we're lucky if we even get a few flakes once in a few years. I hate it down here for that reason. Far too hot for my comfort...and winter is like nonexistent.

Yep, I won the contest as a faerie! It was great fun. I tried it again the following year (the year before COVID), but I'm quite sure they recognized me and I didn't even get in as a runner up. But I have a feeling I know why and they just wanted to be fair to everyone else there. I think I'm going to opt out of the contest, but I'll still don my usual faerie costume for the fun and not to try and win again. I just need to make sure it still works and the fan and battery pack still function right. And yeah, the New York Renaissance Faire has fortune-tellers, too, although that's one thing I've never tried. The thought of trying it does tingle my curiosity.

The faerie costume works great when it's hot out, but if it gets colder, I have a Final Fantasy white mage cosplay that works better if it's nippy out (the last weekend of the faire can be a little chilly when it goes into October), although that gets people telling me "they need healing!" As a fun joke, I could ask them where it hurts, and when they show me, slap a Band-Aid on it. XD

I've been hoping to put together a fantasy inspired costume one of these days esp with my new decorative dagger that'd be good for like an assassin cosplay or something.

That said top of my agenda is putting together a Shaymin gijinka cosplay.

Cosplay. When dressing up for Halloween one day a year just isn't enough. But hey, you'd look great in a Shaymin kigurumi, too!

Although that might lead up to what ensnared me and pushed me to get a kigurumi of all my favorite Pokemon (at least the top 5 anyway).
