A free update is coming to New Pokemon Snap!

Get those cameras ready because there’s a bunch of whole new areas for you to explore starting on August 4! As part of a free update to the main game, three new areas are being added to the game along with twenty new Pokemon that have never been seen before in the Lental Region! Curious to learn more? Well then let’s dive into what we know!
Florio Island Nature Park – Secret Side Path

A new area of the Florio Island Nature Park is set to debut in this update! Featuring both Day and Night version, this side path is unique because it features the NEO-ONE shrinking to a tiny size when you explore this area. This means that Pokemon who normally look quite small, like Wurmple, are going to appear gigantic! You can even hear their breathing and footsteps in this thrilling area, and you might spot new kinds of behavior from Pokémon you’ve already encountered before in other parts of the park.
While we don’t know for sure what all Pokemon will appear in this area, it does appear to mark the debut of Snorlax and Shroomish into the game. It will also feature some familiar faces including Pichu, Torterra, Dodrio, and more, providing a good mix of new Pokemon to photograph and new interactions to observe. Personally I’m really hoping to see Shaymin in this area as well since it would be really cute to see a giant version of the little mascot of Florio Island Nature Park.
Mightywide River

Next up is an entirely new area known as the Mightywide River. This river, which also features both Day and Night versions, marks the debut of a bunch of new Pokemon and features the player riding down the river in the NEO-ONE. Mightywide River is a nurturing water source that provides the whole of Belusylva Island with sustenance. You’ll be conducting research as you ride down the river, so be on the lookout for rapids as you search for Pokémon, and keep your camera ready so you don’t miss capturing them in action.
This area features many new Pokemon including Gyarados, Tropius, and Feraligatr, as well as several new behaviors from familiar Pokemon, such as Quagsire riding down the river on its back. Interestingly, the official trailer for the DLC features Gyarados jumping out of the rapids, a possible reference to the legend that Gyarados is based off of, which is a neat inclusion in the game itself. It’s unclear if Mew or Celebi will appear in this new section of the game, given both of these Mythicals also make their homes in other areas on the Belusylva Island, but given Mew is featured fairly prominently in the trailer, it seems like a possibility that we may catch glimpses of it in the Mightywide River area.
Barren Wilderness

Finally, the last new location that you’ll be able to explore is the wilderness and canyon stage, the Barren Wilderness! Also featuring both Day and Night versions of the stage, in this area, you’ll research the badlands of Voluca Island, where dry winds from the desert blow. This area has many peculiar features, from geysers to poisonous, gas-spewing swamps. Pokémon may be hiding underground or in the rocky cliffs, so keep your eyes peeled for them while you’re on your expedition.
This area is featured the least amount in the trailer, so we don’t know much about it in terms of what new Pokemon or behaviors it will feature. It does, however, seem to be the home of the newly introduced Swalot and features many tunnels that Onix burrow through while traveling in the canyons. As with the other areas, it’s unclear if this area will feature any legendary or mythical Pokemon. Out of Voulca Island’s two currently released areas, only one legendary Pokemon appears, Ho-Oh. Similar to Mew, Ho-Oh does appear in the new trailer, leading to the possibility that it may appear in this new area as well. However, due to its wasteland terrain, it’s possible it features a different Pokemon more suited to the environment, such as Regirock, Heatran, or Groudon.
Excited to learn more? We are too! So mark your calendars since the DLC officially releases on August 4th 01:00 UTC/09:00 EST.
