Will HMs make a return in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?
In a surprising twist, Nintendo launched two new trailers, detailing more information about Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, and Legends Arceus. Below, we have documented everything new about the “faithful Sinnoh remakes.”
The Pokétch

The biggest questions most fans had since the last trailer: “Will this game have HMs?” and “How will they handle the Pokétch since there is no longer a second screen?” Wonder no more reader, everything got answered this time around.
“The Pokétch is a handy gadget players receive on their in-game journey that’s loaded up with various apps. This all-purpose tool has apps for all sorts of situations, such as the Dowsing Machine app, which can be used to locate hidden items. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, the Pokétch also allows players to call on wild Pokémon to help them out by using hidden moves like Cut to chop down obstructive trees or Rock Climb to scale steep cliffs.”
Players can pull up the Pokétch and select a mode to use. Minimizing the Pokétch will cause it to sit on the top right of the screen and display the last mode that was selected. Handy for searching for hidden items or counting your steps while hatching an egg. And yes, it will be loaded with a new feature. The ability to call on wild Pokémon to use HMs to allow you access various parts of the map and help you as you along your journey to beating the Elite Four.
Amity Square

Take a break from all the battles and Team Galactic drama by visiting Amity Square. Play with your Pokémon, get to know them, and even stir up some Poffins to feed their curiosity.
“Amity Square in Hearthome City is a relaxing place where Trainers can spend time with their Pokémon. They’ll be able to walk with up to six of their Pokémon at a time, so long as they are among the list of Pokémon permitted in the park. While inside Amity Square, players can also adjust the camera angle and zoom level to take commemorative photos and videos with their Pokémon.”
Long time fans of the series will remember, that in the original games, you could only take one of eleven different Pokémon out with you in Amity Square. That was pretty underwhelming considering how many Pokémon were in the game in total. But now, in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, there are no restrictions. Watching the trailer, Amity Square reminded me a lot of Pokémon Camp from the latest Pokémon Sword and Shield games and I can’t wait to kick back and watch my Pokémon frolic around.
Poffins Poffins Poffins

Add a dash of this, a pinch of that, and stir up something yummy. Create and feed Poffins to your Pokémon to improve their chances of winning in the Super Contest.
“Poffins are snacks that can raise Pokémon’s conditions, such as Coolness or Cuteness. By raising these conditions, players can get higher scores during the Visual Evaluation of Super Contest Shows. In Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, it was only possible to make Poffins in the Poffin House, but now players can make them in Amity Square as well.”
Please note that unlike cooking curry in Sword and Shield, making Poffins cannot be done with other players. You can add four berries to your dish to create delicious Poffins without the need to connect to the internet and play with others.
