Yeah, those green biting flies are the devil. My brother had a huge difficulty keeping them under control at his old house. It was one of the big reasons he left for elsewhere.

That and the neighborhood was going into the gutter...

    Green biting flies?

Yeah places around town here are going downhill too. The places where my parents grew up are so run down. Turned mostly into sketchy looking neighborhoods you wouldn't wanna be at around night time.

    The time is upon us...

Seeing that must make the feeling of nostalgia hit different.

Some nostalgia is good, but sometimes you get reminded of all the not-so-nice stuff you forgot about and put out of your mind.

I get that while playing old video games. It's easy to forget those had limitations that modern day games don't have.

Yeah, that's why it's hard to play the older games.

For Pokemon, I can only play Gen 3 and above tbh

Especially controllers. I still have my original NES and it's just funny how few buttons these controllers have compared to controllers now. You just had a D-pad, Select and Start, and A and B buttons. That's it. No crazy A/B/X/Y, shoulder buttons, trigger buttons in the back, and all kinds of other stuff going on.

And yeah, there were quite a few games back then that could have used those buttons. Instead you had all these crazy combinations of buttons you had to press to perform certain actions. That and VERY few games had in-game tutorials. You had to read the instruction manual to get an understanding of how the game functioned. And good luck getting your hands on those these days! xD

Sometimes simplicity is a good thing! I remember the Gameboy only had that too. A, B, D-pad, start and select. Not every game even used them all.

Yeah I remember games like that too. Where games didn't even have a tutorial. There was a Batman game my brother and I tried playing on the Gameboy. No tutorial at all with it. We could only make it to the end of the first path from left to right. There's a wall...we couldn't progress at all because there's no way forward without using a combination of buttons to use a grabbling hook to go up to the next floor. Never did we figure it out until I watched a video long after we didn't care anymore. XD

Yeah, there were a LOT of old Nintendo games I got stuck on that I didn't solve until WAY later when there were guides on the Internet that explained how to do certain things and get unstuck. And so often it was something so simple but so stupid that it was overlooked.

Like in the NES game Goonies II. We could NEVER, EVER, EVER find the flippin' candle, which could be used to illuminate dark rooms. Instead, we just had to trial and error navigate through the dark rooms until we progressed to the next area, which was a pretty pesky thing to do. Thankfully, you can completely finish the whole game without the candle.

Turns out, to get the candle, you need to hit an old lady five times. That's the kind of so simple but so stupid that I'm talking about. xD
