Get ready to say Alola, one last time!
That’s right, the Season of Alola is winding down to a close. After travelling to different islands, catching Pokémon and making memories, it’s now time to reminisce on your adventure. To wrap it up, the team at Niantic are giving you the opportunity to choose your own adventure based on one of four islands found in the Alola Region, in a brand new branching Special Research story.
All you need to do is complete the the four previous Special Research tasks (A Melemele Adventure, An Akala Adventure, An Ula’ula Adventure, and A Poni Adventure) before June 1, 2022 at 9:59 a.m. local time. Doing so will unlock the End-of-Season Special Research: Alola to Alola. If you don’t complete the four Special Research tasks, you can purchase Alola to Alola for $4.99 USD.
Trainers who obtain the end-of-Season Special Research story by completing the four individual Special Research paths will be able to purchase the ticket in the shop for additional rewards.
Special Research Details

Melemele Island Path
The tasks for this branch of the story focus mainly on social challenges such as sending gifts and taking snapshots. While not all rewards are known at this time, here is some of the things you will receive.

  • Two Poffins
  • A Lure Module
  • Four Lucky Eggs
  • An encounter with a possibly Shiny Alolan Raichu
  • A Pom-Pom Style Oricorio Hat avatar item

Akala Island Path
The tasks for this branch of the story focus mainly on adventuring so tasks will including walking X amount of kilometres and spinning PokéStops. While not all rewards are known at this time, here is some of the things you will receive.

  • An Incense
  • Two Incubators
  • A Super Incubator
  • An encounter with a possibly Shiny Alolan Marowak
  • A Pa’u Style Oricorio Hat avatar item

Ula’ula Island Path
The tasks for this branch of the story focus mainly on catching Pokémon. Challenges you will face during this path include catching a certain amount of Pokémon or performing certain types of throws. While not all rewards are known at this time, here is some of the things you will receive.

  • A Glacial Lure
  • A Magnetic Lure
  • Four Incense
  • An encounter with a possibly Shiny Alolan Vulpix
  • A Baile Style Oricorio Hat avatar item

Poni Island Path
The tasks for this branch of the story focus mainly on battling. This path will require you to win Trainer Battles in the GO Battle League and defeat Team GO Rocket Leaders. While not all rewards are known at this time, here is some of the things you will receive.

  • A Rocket Radar
  • Three Star Pieces
  • A Premium Battle Pass
  • An encounter with a possibly Shiny Alolan Executor
  • A Sensu Style Oricorio Hat avatar item

The path you choose should fit your play style, but it’s totally understandable if a certain item sways your vote. If you complete the four Special Research and choose to buy the pass as well you will be able to pick two different paths. Doing this allows you to grab items from two island paths. You could also choose to play the same path twice, but you will only receive one Oricorio Hat if you do.
