In the vast open Region of Paldea, it’s nice to have some clear objectives.
We were teased that Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet had three main story lines back in August. These stories aren’t really new to The Pokémon franchise. Help your friends accomplish their goal, journey through the gym challenge and become the regions champion, and defeat the bad team along the way. It’s a staple of the main line games that helps drive the story forward.
But what happens in an open world game where you can go anywhere and do what you want, in any order? You have to make these story focal points a little more obvious. And that’s exactly what The Pokémon Company has done. In a followup to the tease, we got a video that explains in more detail, what those three paths have in store for you as you explore Paldea.
Starfall Street

Players will challenge Team Star, a group of delinquents causing trouble for the school. Throughout the Paldea Region, you will find various bases, occupied by the schoolyard ruffians known as Team Star. This will not be your typical baddie beat down. It seems that all the Grunts will send out their Pokémon at the same time.
You are tasked with defeating all of them within a time limit, if you want the opportunity to take on the Squad Boss. You can use the new “Let’s Go” feature to help. Send one of your Pokémon out to battle autonomously while you control another Pokémon in the traditional fashion. Let’s Go can also be used in the field to battle and collect items.

Introducing Mela, The Boss of the Schedar Squad, a Fire-Type loving sector of Team Star. You will face her upon the Starmobile, if you are able to take down the grunts surrounding the area. Mela will use various Fire-Type Pokémon in an attempt to stop you. According to official sources, the Starmobile will even become somewhat of an obstacle while battling. I have some theories on what that could mean just by looking at the car itself. Something seems a little unusual about that engine.
Path of Legends

Follow Arven, the upperclassman with a knack for cooking. He will take you on a journey in search of rare ingredients called Herba Mystica. But, plot twist, these herbs are guarded by Titan Pokémon. These Pokémon are much larger than others of the same species. During the trailer we got to see Klawf, one of the newest Pokémon to be revealed for the generation 9 games. Klawf also appears in it’s Titan form. Titan Pokémon have more health and are harder to take down than normal Pokémon.
Fun fact, “Titan” was the code name used during early development of these games. It was unclear as to the reasoning behind this, but after today, it has become very clear. With Paldea being so large, you can be sure there will be Titan Pokémon scattered in every biome. Do you have what it takes to help Arven and take down all of them?
Victory Road

Battle your way through all eight Gyms, and defeat the Champions of the Paldea Region to achieve Champion Rank yourself. Along the way you will meet Brassius, the Grass-Type Gym Leader from Artazon. His Gym Test will have you hunting down Sunflora around the town. Once you have found and returned them all, you will be granted the opportunity to battle him.

Meet Geeta, a well respected Champion, and the chairwoman of the Pokémon League. She will serve as a possible mentor and eventual adversary for the protagonist. While nothing else in currently known about this character, you can be sure you be seeing lots of her throughout the game.
I did, however, find it interesting that The Pokémon Company made it clear the Geeta is ONE of the Champions. Does this mean that there will be multiple Champions to defeat? Maybe a different Champion depending on which version of the game you play? Is she the current Champion among a group of former Champions? More questions than answers unfortunately, but it does get me hyped to play these games.

Which storyline are you most excited to jump into first? Be sure to let us know in the comments and on Twitter.
See you around, Genesect!
