Every so often, a company, product, or even a forum user will change its name. In many cases, the majority of us will get used to the previous name, that it's hard for us to adjust to the new name. Sometimes, long after such a name change, one will continue to refer to that entity under its former name.
What are some entities that have changed their name in your lifetime that you still frequently use the former name of?
Whether I use a company, product, or forum member's old name long after a name change depends on whether the old name sounds better to me.
Among the previous names I still frequently use are:
- S. C. Johnson & Son, which currently bills itself in advertising as "S. C. Johnson - A Family Company", to me, will always be "S. C. Johnson Wax".
- I often still think of Fiat Chrysler as "Chrysler Corporation" (the original name of the company before its 1998 merger with what was then Daimler-Benz).
- I frequently refer to Michigan utility giant Consumers Energy under its pre-1997 name of "Consumers Power".
