This week we are going to feature a match by Pooka from The Top Cut. Pooka takes a look at the deck that was used by National TCG Masters Champion, Brandon Salazar. The deck is an interesting one where Pooka shows why and how it was able to pull off so many victories at US Nationals a few weeks ago.
The deck that Brandon used could be consider an “anti-metagame” deck. This means that it had everything in it to counter all the biggest threats within the metagame. In a format that is heavily reliant on abilities, Garbotoxin Garbodor is needed to shut down the abilities that many decks depend on. Mewtwo EX that can jump into any battle with a simple Double Colorless Energy to do heavy damage quickly. Raichu is in the deck so it can knock out Yveltal EX by striking at it’s Lightning weakness with a full bench. Doing 100 damage isn’t too bad as well. Druddigon provides great hits after your opponent takes a prize and can knock out Rayquaza EX and Black Kyurem EX
with one swipe. Lastly, Landorus EX is here to be the heavy hitter using Hammerhead to do an easy 30 damage with a Fighting energy and take down low HP Pokemon on the bench. This card has been used over and over again and is a solid attacker.
This deck uses a lot of bunch of different Pokemon to do damage but it is able to attack everything with something to take prizes. Even better is that the deck is flexible enough where it can switch to one prized attackers to do heavy damage with little lost. What really gives this deck an extra punch is a variety of Trainer cards such as Hypnotoxic Laser with Virbank City Gym and Muscle Band. This can be the difference between doing normal damage and a knock out. Add Lysandre and you can target Pokemon on the bench to put the tide of the game in your favor.
This deck was able to win the Master’s National title against a seasoned veteran. Now take a look at this video that shows why it was able to do so well on the grand stage for Brandon with Pooka at the wheel. Click below to watch the match!
