[GYM BATTLE #1] Pewter City Gym VS Brock

    GYM BATTLE #1

Welcome to the Indigo League! Now that you have a tough team, it's time to take on the Gym Leaders of the Kanto region! Can you defeat them all and earn badges? Gyms will be open as long as the event is on, so if you can't defeat a leader yet, don't worry! Go out and catch some more Pokemon!

    How it works
The details of how to battle are found in the spoiler below:

    Spoiler:
Battling is based on only 2 things. What evolution stage your Pokemon is and its type.

    Evolution stage
For the purposes of the game, pretend no Pokemon outside of Kanto exist.

A basic Pokemon is a Pokemon that is unevolved like Bulbasaur and Pikachu.
A middle evolution is a Pokemon that has evolved once and has the potential to evolve again, like Kakuna.
A final evolution is a Pokemon that can't evolve any further like Venusaur, Seadra or Scyther.

A Pokemon can defeat any Pokemon which are at a lower evolution stage (unless one Pokemon is super effective against another!)

    Example:
Basic Pokemon vs Basic Pokemon = draw
Basic Pokemon vs Middle Evolution = middle evolution wins
Basic Pokemon vs Final Evolution = final evolution wins
Middle evolution vs Final Evolution = final evolution wins
    Type Effectiveness

If at least one of the Pokemon's types is SUPER EFFECTIVE against the opposing Pokemon, then you get a bonus equal to one evolution stage.

    Example:
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs a Squirtle (Basic) = Bulbasaur wins
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Wartortle (Middle) = draw
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Blastoise (Final) = Blastoise wins
If both Pokemon are super-effective against each other, then the bonus cancels out.

    Example:
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Geodude (Basic + Super effective) = draw
Bulbasaur (Basic + Super effective) vs Graveler (Middle + Super effective) = Graveler wins
Ivysaur (Middle + Super effective) vs Gyarados (Final + Super effective) = Gyarados wins
Venusaur (Final + Super effective) vs Gyarados (Final + Super effective) = draw

    Example battle

    Trainer Alex challenges you!
"I'm a new trainer but I'll do my best!"

    Pidgeotto (Middle, Normal/Flying type)
    Sandshrew (Basic, Ground type)
    Metapod (Middle, Bug type)

Choose three of your own Pokemon to battle with! To make it simple, you can only use a Pokemon once per battle. So think of it like three 1 vs 1 battles!

    My team:

    Charmander (Basic, Fire type)
    Abra (Basic, Psychic type)
    Nidorino (Middle, Poison type)

    The battle! Round One!

Pidgeotto (Middle, Normal/Flying type) vs Nidorino (Middle, Poison type)
    No type bonuses. Draw.

    Round Two!

Sandshrew (Basic, Ground type) vs Abra (Basic, Psychic type)
    No type bonuses. Draw.

    Round Three!

Metapod (Middle, Bug type) vs Charmander (Basic, Fire type)
    Charmander is super effective. Draw.

Final outcome: Battle is a draw!

    PEWTER CITY GYM

    Gym Rules:
You will battle with three Pokemon.
The gym will function as three 1 vs 1 battles.
You must win at least two of the three battles to defeat Brock.
Any battle which ends in a draw is counted as a loss.

"I'm Brock! I'm Pewter's Gym Leader! I believe in rock hard defense and determination!
That's why my Pokémon are all the Rock-type! Do you still want to challenge me?
Fine then! Show me your best!"

    Pokemon:
    (Basic, Ground type)
    (Basic, Rock/Ground type)
    (Final, Rock/Ground type)

Individual Prize: Boulder Badge , evolve one Pokemon.

Post your battle below. When your battle is approved and your name is added to the first post under Certified Trainers, you may go ahead and request to evolve a Pokemon in the Wild Pokemon Claim thread.

    My team:

    Golem: Final Rock/Ground
    Psyduck: Basic Water
    Sandshrew: Basic Ground

Psyduck versus Cubone: Water is Supereffective against Ground, Cubone loses.

Sandshrew versus Geodude: Ground is supereffective against Rock (funnily enough Ground is one of the few types which doesn't resist itself last I checked), Geodude loses.

Golem versus Onix: They're both exactly the same mechanically, so it's a draw.

    End Result: V I C T O R Y !

    Go Bulbasaur, Psyduck, and Sandslash!

Psyduck versus Cubone! Psyduck has a type advantage, Psyduck wins!

Bulbasaur versus Geodude! Ground is super-effective against Bulbasaur's poison. HOWEVER, Bulbasaur's Grass is x4 effective against Geodude's Rock and Ground types!
So, pretty much, it's a draw.

Finally! Sandslash versus Onix! Both are final evolutions! BUT! Sandslash's Ground typing is super effective against Rock types! Sandslash wins!

    SO! I win!

Pokemon used: Mizu the Wartortle, Trista the Kadabra, Spike the Nidoran (male)

Cubone vs Spike--After an epic struggle, this comes out a tie due to no type advantages
Geodude vs Mizu--No problem for Wartortle
Onix vs. Trista--Despite a heroic effort on Trista's part, Onix wins

    Result: Tie--Sky got Boulder Badge!

    My team
    Ivysaur (Middle, Grass/Poison type)
    Dewgong (Final, Water/Ice)
    Clefable (Final, Fairy)

    Battle starts.
(Basic, Ground type) VS Ivysaur (Middle, Grass/Poison type)
Ivysaur is super effective with Grass type, Cubone is super effective with Ground type. Type bonuses cancel out. Ivysaur's evolution stage is higher [OVERALL IVYSAUR WINS]
(Basic, Rock/Ground type) VS Clefable (Final, Fairy type) No type bonuses. Clefable's evolution stage is higher. [OVERALL CLEFABLE WINS]

(Final, Rock/Ground type) VS Dewgong (Final, Water/Ice type)
Dewgong is super effective against Onix with both Water and Ice type, Onix is super effective against Dewgong with Rock type. Type bonuses cancel out (I think) Evolution stages are a draw. [OVERALL DEWGONG AND ONIX DRAW] I think

    Results:
    2 wins to Coru
1 draw between Coru and Brock [1 loss for Coru]
    [CORU WINS]
@Pokemon Trainer Sarah, If your pokemon has two type advantages and the opposing pokemon has one, do they still cancel each other out, or does the one advantage only cancel out one other advantage, leaving my Dewgong still in the win?
It says that if at least one type is super effective you get one boost in terms of evolution stage so it sounds like it would still be a draw but i'm unsure.
