[Weekly Prompt] King Arthur and the Pokemon of the Round Table

King Arthur and the Pokemon of the Round Table

It was a hot day for the young Kirlia as he shined his master's armor. He paused to wipe some sweat from his forehead before returning to his work. Master wouldn't be pleased to find him slaking, even if it was just to clean off his forehead. Even if the armor had been spotless an hue ago, Master never liked to find him doing something he hadn't been directly ordered to do. It was quite annoying but he didn't exactly expect less, being a page.

"Arthur!" Speak of the devil. Arthur turned around just in time to see his master, Sir Ector, and his fellow page, Kay, enter the tent. "Is my armor ready?" Arthur scrambled into a bow and gestured to the suit of armor.

"It is, Sir Ector!" The Dragonite walked forward and stomped his foot.

"Well then, what are you waiting for? Suit me up!" Arthur and Kay exchanged a brief look of exasperation before suiting up their master. The tournament to select the next king of Britain was about to begin. Legend said that the one most worthy would become the king through the ultimate test, though Arthur knew not what it was. He speculated it might just be the tournament, or possibly that the rumored wizard Merlin might have a task for the winner. Either way, Arthur was excited to see all that the tournament held for the day.

When Arthur and Kay finished suiting up Sir Ector, the Dragonite stormed out of the tent towards the grand stadium where the tournament was to be held soon. Arthur and Kay were in charge of gathering everything Sir Ector would need during battle, but both boys took a moment to rest while their master wasn't looking.

"That armor looked very well polished, Arthur. How long were you doing that?" Kay asked. Arthur glanced over at the Dratini beside him and shrugged.

"Pretty much the entire time you and your father were gone," he replied. Arthur winced as Kay hit him in the shoulder. Kay leveled a glare at Arthur and huffed.

"Please! He may be my biological father, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm not related to that man. He's too much of a jerk." Arthur immediately felt bad. He knew how much Kay disliked his father, but sometimes it just slipped out.

"We're still brothers, right? Even if not by blood?" Arthur asked. Kay paused to think the question over before nodding.

"Totally. Blood doesn't make relatives." Both boys laughed before Kay stood up and sighed. "We better gather Sir Ector's things. He's up first in the tournament and it should be beginning soon."

Kay and Arthur scrambled around the tent, gathering all the items needed for the tournament at hand. However, per usual, they quickly found they didn't have enough room in their hands for everything. Kay insisted they just make two trips but Arthur refused, saying he'd carry everything else with his psychic magic. Kay didn't seem to keen on the idea but let it go and headed on. All that was left for Arthur to carry were Sir Ector's sword and shield, the most important items for the knight.

Arthur closed his eyes and pictured the two items in his head. He reached out with his psychic magic and lifted the two objects. Arthur didn't have to open his eyes to know that he had a hold on them. The strain on his consciousness was signal enough. Arthur turned around, opened his eyes, and fled the tent, knowing what he had lifted with his psychic magic would follow right behind him. He noted that the load didn't seem as heavy as usual, but he attributed it to growing stronger in his psychic magic.

Arthur made it just in time as he ran inside the stadium where Kay and Sir Ector were waiting. The two pages handed everything they could to Sir Ector before he had to be escorted out and ran out onto the field with him to deliver the last few things, of them, his sword and shield. Sir Ector and his opponent stood still as the man in charge gave a speech about the tournament. Arthur did his best to make it appear like he was paying attention, even if he wasn't. He felt a tap on his shoulder and glanced to his right to see Kay with a panicked look on his face.

"Where's Sir Ector's sword?" Kay hissed. Arthur's eyes widened and glanced over his shoulder, only a shield behind him. Arthur had to keep from shouting and looked at Kay for help. "Go look for it, I'll stall." Arthur gave Kay the shield then dashed off, hoping he had gone unnoticed.

Arthur began to retrace the path he had taken to reach the stadium, searching every book and cranny for the sword. He was only halfway to their tent, where it probably was, when cheers erupted from the stadium. The tournament was about to start! Arthur was about to dash straight to the tent when he noticed a sword nearby. It was stabbed into the rock but that didn't matter. Arthur would try to pull it out, and if it came he'd take it to his master instead.

Arthur ran over to the stone, wrapped his hands around the hilt, and pulled. The sword slid out like a knife from butter. Arthur stumbled and fell back from the rock, but it didn't matter. The boy scrambled to his feet and dashed back to the tournament, unaware of the eyes watching him from nearby.

Arthur arrived just in time. The glare he received from Sir Ector told him he'd be in trouble later. Arthur presented the Dragonite with the sword and sighed, hoping he wouldn't be in too much trouble. Arthur and Kay stepped back as Sir Ector and his opponent stepped into the main arena of the stadium. The battle was about to begin when a voice called out across the stadium,

"Wait! Is that the legendary sword?" All the occupants in the arena turned to look at the sword Sir Ector was brandishing.

"It is!" Arthur looked up to see the presider of the tournament stand up from his box and point at the sword. "That's the sword, Caliburn! Sir Ector, did you pull the sword?" Sir Ector seemed flustered for a moment before realizing what this could mean for him. He puffed out his chest and nodded.

"Of course I did! I attempted it just before the tournament began!" Arthur felt he should be angered at the blatant lie, but he was used to Sir Ector taking the credit these days and did not see much point in protesting the decision. However, someone else did.

"Did you really?" Arthur watched as a cloaked Pokemon stepped from the shadows. He was tall and wearing a brown coat, but that was all Arthur could see of the man. "Why don't we replace the sword and you pull it out again? It shouldn't be too difficult if you actually pulled it out the first time." Sir Ector seemed flustered by this proposal but did not want to back down from such a challenge, so he reluctantly consented.

Sir Ector, the mysterious Pokemon, Arthur, Kay, and a large group of spectators, all gathered around the rock from which the sword had been drawn. Sir Ector placed the sword back into the rock, then pulled. However, Caliburn did not budge. Sir Ector pulled once again, twice, three times, but nothing. Sir Ector's honor had been tarnished.

"So if you didn't pull the sword, then who did?" The presider of the tournament asked. Sir Ector, in a bad mood, snarled and said,

"I don't know! Ask my page, he was the one who brought it to me." Arthur seemed a bit flustered as all eyes turned to him. The Kirlia stumbled back a little and trembled out of nervousness. The presider, an Aggron, stepped forward with impatience.

"Well? Out with it, page! Where did you get the sword?"

"I-I drew it!" Arthur squeaked out. Silence settled over the crowd in a quick hush, followed by a burst of mocking laughter. Arthur looked around in disbelief as he realized no one believed he was the one who drew the sword. Arthur looked at Kay and felt his heart break when even the Dratini looked at Arthur as if the Kirlia were lying. Well, if that's how they wanted to play it, then so be it.

Arthur ducked past the Aggron and Dragonite that stood between him and Caliburn. He climbed up the stone and, in one slick movement, Arthur removed the holy sword from the sword. He swung it gently through the air and stared down at those around him. Slowly, the spectating Pokemon began to bow down before Arthur, leaving the Kirlia confused.

"So, you are the king I have been searching for." Arthur turned around to see the mysterious Pokemon from before. Before Arthur could answer the Pokemon, his appearance shimmered and shrank. Suddenly, floating in the air in place of the cloaked Pokemon, was the legendary Pokemon Uxie.

"The great magician, Merlin!" someone gasped from the crowd. Merlin merely smiled and placed his hand on Arthur's shoulder.

"Just as the prophecy foretold, the new king of the Britain Region is the only one with the ability to pull the sword from the stone! Thus, from this day forth, this Kirlia will be known as King Arthur of the Britain Region!"

Very nice job!--I see what you did there with the "slaking" pun ;-)

Since this is supposed to be a Pokemonized version, I imagine a counterpart of England would be the Britan region--but that's just me.
Everyone has a dream that fills their heart. A journey they must take. A destiny to fulfill. As close as your imagination exists a magical place, where wondrous creatures with incredible powers help make dreams come true. It's the world of Pokemon!!"
