My 3DS is just purely black. I was pretty quick to get it when it first came out.

But yeah, I wouldn't pay more just to have special designs on it. Just doesn't seem worth it.

The thing is, the special design ones are the same price are the regular single colour ones. (At least until the scalpers get ahold of them.)

Ah, that might explain why I was seeing higher prices sometimes. They've been doing that a lot with the Nintendo Switch lately and ugh, it's annoying.

You're thinking it could be worth 500%+ it's normal value if it remains unsealed? Possibly, but I can't hold on to something that long for it to be worth it.
