Obviously you've never had gelatto then.

gelatto is freaking delicious
Personaly, I'm more of a milkshake person. They last longer and you can get more ice cream in it than if you ate it from a cone or something.
I have not, I admit, ever had a gelato Shake. They're not particularly common but do sound quite good.
all this talk about desserts shifts between giving me sugar cravings or straight-up mind diabetes
That, I will admit, is a true fact. Gelato is really common in Italy so every time I go I get some. I was fortunate enough to have a gelatari open near my house five years ago (after my official first trip to Italy) but it closed several months later.
If you ever get the chance though definitely try it. Even if you don't like it, you can at least say you had it. Personally I like the creme flavor the best because it tastes like vanilla, but it also varies in taste place to place, whereas most of the other flavors generally tasted the same everywhere. And while the other ones were good, I liked the way the creme varied not just city to city but store to store.
I have tried gelato, but that was a long, long time ago. It was definitely good, but it's been a while since I've had any.
I did have some Gelato when I visited Italy, it was in Florence I believe. It was VERY good. Though the portion size was rather small.
