It's weird, I signed up for GCEA thinking I was going to be doing WAY more writing entries than art entries, and it's been totally the opposite. I think only once did I do a writing entry while all the other times, it was the art side I went with.

I made good progress on that synopsis for Wildcaster yesterday. I managed to keep it just under 700 words, so it does the job, but bleh, it leaves out so much of the good, juicy stuff that really defines the story. The guide I read right here wasn't kidding. A synopsis really sucks the life and guts out of the story, but I guess that's where including the first three chapters or so helps.

My only concern is the story doesn't have a whole lot of crazy action in the beginning, but then again, most stories are this way. Wildcaster is kind of in the same ballpark as The Wizard of Oz and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (the whole strangers in a strange land kind of setting), and those don't really get intense until much later. So I think I'm okay.

It's a LOT like those, save for the fact the characters are from a present-day setting and the main viewpoint character, Ken, is a cynical guy that remarks on everything in a funny and sarcastic way. Where Dorthy would be standing there in a stupor about the strangeness of things, Ken drops snarky comments about them that I feel would make the reader chuckle.

Was it the synopsis you wanted to check out, or the whole story? Because the synopsis is the ultimate spoiler fiesta. As much as I'd love to have a second pair of eyes check the synopsis out and get their opinion on it, you would definitely spoil the heck out of the story.

The actual novel is 98,966 words. I know you're busy with college and likely have been reading more textbooks and junk than you can possibly stomach, so I can't really expect you to read all that right now.

But, if you wanted to check the synopsis, here you go:

    CRITICAL-LEVEL SPOILER ALERT!!!

    Spoiler:
Ken Donavan, a male in his late teens, is struggling with a dead-end summer job when an unexpected turn of events sends him and his three coworkers, Sarah Patterson, Jeff Benson, and Mark Sullivan into the fantasy world of Valta. After realizing they've left Earth, they discover the world is influenced by the magical force of Taika, which is also capable of transforming humans into other creatures. It becomes apparent that in order to find their way back home as humans, they need to not only learn how to use Taika, but also avoid succumbing to its effects and lose their humanity in the process.

Ken and Sarah decide to get trained in Taika, but the plan hits a snag when Jeff has an encounter that turns him into a half-man, half-dragon drachen. After realizing how easy it is to become affected by Taika, the four attempt to expedite their Taika training and reverse Jeff's drachen transformation by joining the Silver Vanguard. Once there, the four are then given the initiation mission to retrieve four key gems to unlock the Amethyst Chamber, said to contain vast amounts of power and resources. In order to get these gems, they have to go to the continent of Paltaria and steal the key gems from the four Paltaria Guardians, each secured in four separate countries based on a season.

Once they arrive in Paltaria, the group decides to split up, and Ken heads into the country of Springside to find the flower key gem. However, upon trying to sneak his way through Floranta, he captured by Starflower and is forced to drink Sun Water by Demetri. Much to his displeasure, it turns Ken into a lilyara, one of the peaceful flower humanoid species native to Springside. Ken manages to escape the city, but runs into a Calasal patrol, one of the prime enemies of Floranta. After fighting his way through, he eventually finds the Springside Paltaria Guardian, Loserra. Ken soon learns that their mission to open the Amethyst Chamber has been discovered, but he still manages to steal the flower gem from Loserra.

Upon reuniting with Jeff and Mark, now as a pixie because of Autumnvale's Taika, they attempt to find and rescue Sarah in Summerfield when she does not return. After traveling for days, they eventually find her and rescue her, but have to fight the Summerfield Guardian, Alzara, to retrieve the sun gem needed to unlock the chamber.

After being captured by Demetri, Loserra, and a company of pursuers from the other countries of Paltaria, the four are carted off to await trial in Summerfield after Demetri swipes away the key gems. However, before they get there, they are rescued by the same band of pixies Mark met in Autumnvale and by Starflower, the lilyara that originally captured Ken in Floranta. They soon discover a deeper plot that Demetri is out to use the key gems to unlock the Amethyst Chamber for himself.

They pursue Demetri back to Floranta, only to find the city is under attack by Calasal. Ken decides to focus on saving the town at the risk of losing the gems and being stranded on Valta. With Starflower's help, they fight their way through the city and locate Calasal's commanding officers, Vrell and Xente, now with three of the four gems. Demetri reveals himself to the four, explains he was tricked before he could betray Calasal, but shows he has the last remaining gem Calasal is looking for. He then sacrifices himself as a diversion to allow Ken a chance at stopping Vrell. Ken and his friends defeat Vrell, but Xente soon discovers him and they fight to the death. After a long fight, Xente backs Ken into a corner while mocking the entire lilyara race. However, one of the lilyara that Ken met earlier shoots him in the back with a crossbow, giving Ken enough time and opportunity to deliver the killing blow on Xente.

With Floranta saved, Starflower offers to help the four return home. After making their way to the Amethyst Chamber, Starflower learns the Taika necessary to reverse the transformations while Ken learns how to create the rift they need to return home.

A lot of the fun, flavor, and style of the book is missing from that, but that's the synopsis I plan on sending to agents. It's on my list of things to do tomorrow, but I'm really hoping one of these guys likes it and decides to roll with it.

Will it be the next big thing like Harry Potter? Who knows, but I'm gearing up to try and go big!

I have a biased judgment of your book because FANTASY!! I can't help it, I'm a sucker for fantasy so I think it looks great. I just have to ask, do we see all the characters' adventures or will we just be following the main guy.

Just the main character, as it's written in first person POV. You do hear about what happens to the others during the times they separate, though, but it's mostly summarized from the main character's perspective with his own sarcastically colorful reflections on it. XD

Okay that's what I got from your summary so I just wanted to make sure that was correct.
