Your personality online vs. real life.

I was thinking about this. When it comes to your personality irl or in voice and your personality on the internet or when you're typing, how does it differ?

As for me, I'm much more sarcastic via text because I have time to think about it. I'm also a little more crazy online unless I'm drunk irl or just in one of those moods. I tend to be more calm and quiet, but I'd say that my online personality isn't TOO different from irl nowadays.

I guess that's pretty typical, but I'd love to see everyone else's self assessments! Some people are really different, while some people don't change much at all.

When you can hide behind an avatar and text, it's not difficult to act more boldly. If we are present in our voice or own image, we tend to be more self-conscious as it's easier to disassociate yourself with text you typed up on the screen than it is when any personal part of you is being put on display, so to speak.

One thing that carries over from how I behave in person is expressiveness. There's a reason I don't like to go without emoticons; it's because I'm a super expressive person. Chances are, if you see an "xD" or a variation of lol at the end of a sentence it's because I'm chuckling or giggling. I do that a lot. Like, if I were to SPEAK that sentence then I would be giggling at some point.

I would like to thing I'm a lot calmer online than I am IRL, but... eh. I think my online personality is very similar to my offline one, save for the fact that sometimes online I'll say something that I'd probably never say IRL. In addition, I tend to type very formally so I sound quite different from text to speech just in the difference between what I type and what I actually say.

I would definitely admit that I am a lot more emotional online than I am in real life, especially when it comes to being upset or angry. In real life I've come to adopt a very stoic expression if I'm angry, bothered, or sad, and refuse to admit it because people tend to take that as a sign of weakness, especially as a woman in politics. Here, however, I'm much more expressive and don't really try to hide my emotions if at all possible.

Also, quite often when I use emoticons or say something like "lol", I'm not actually making that expression and it's just me staring at the screen but it's usually representing what I would be doing if you said that to my face. I'm also a bit more honest online. I feel like I don't have to hide myself as much online as I do in real life since I am anonymous in many ways.

To be honest, I'm pretty similar online and in person. In some ways I'm not, but in a lot of ways I am. One of the major differences between me online and in person is that online I curse basically constantly, while I almost never curse IRL. IRL I'm actually like, pretty shy and awkward, and I feel like that doesn't show so much online. Other than that though I'm not very different.

My online personality is probably a bit more outgoing and social than my real life one. I dunno, for some reason, you guys in general understand me and open up to me a WHOLE LOT more than people I've met in real life. People in real life interrupt me constantly while I'm in the middle of speaking (if they even give me a chance to get in on the conversation in the first place). They also don't really care much about what I'm talking about, and almost always push the conversation into things that I don't know or really care for.

It'd be weird if you were too quiet Neo. XD It will be too weird! Awww. Well sometimes I feel the same way too. People I've met on the forums are far more fun and lovely than those irl :3

Online I'm easier to get along with. Irl I sometimes accidentally say something, and it comes out sounding rude when I didn't mean it to, or something I meant as a compliment just comes out sounding really really weird. Online I can read over what I type before posting it, in case it may come out sounding wrong.
Also irl if there's a conversation of more than me and one other person, I usually end up just listening to the other people talking, or end up zoning out after a little while because trying to get back into it sounds kind of awkward to me.
Sometimes if I'm in an area or situation that stresses me out I forget the words I was going to use mid-sentence.
I'm also more social and friendly online, because I'm more likely to talk to and open up to someone who likes the same games, books, or tv shows or movies as I do, and the internet very conveniently has websites and stuff all about just those things.
Basically I'm more put-together on the internet, I like to think?

My online personality is similar to my real life one, with the only differences being that I'm more outgoing because I know people here all have roughly similar interests to mine, and in real life I have a bit of a more dry sense of humour, mostly with the likes of sarcasm. The only reason I'm not as sarcastic is because sometimes people think I'm serious due to the fact that there's no easy way to see I'm being sarcastic unless it's like Reddit and I go /s.

But yeah, I'm basically the same person, only with a few adaptations. :D
