On my forum me and my staff have a system of 'manual purging' , where, say there is a birthday thread, we leave it open for maybe a month or two at most, then we lock it, then a month later move it the trash section. This keeps the general discussion area nice and neat and not overly cluttered. The general discussion on my forum is still within two pages by doing this and I like it like that. No reason to keep a thread like that open forever, you can just create a new topic for it next year. Lol
Yeah, I feel that. I've had the staff make me some Archives for the ASBL, so that I can store all the irrelevant, long finished battles and threads away somewhere where they can still be reached, but aren't making things look chaotic. In the important forums, that is. The archives are a mess.

I do the same in real life. There's always that one cupboard.

As an old forum mod, I don't see the harm in it, if the post is relative and not bashing on the topic at hand. I don't like a legion of threads on the same topic when the original thread can be posted in. Free from clutter. Under certain circumstances, which have been brought up already, i can see where necromancy would be filthy. You will get sparced if you post in a holiday thread, simple as that.

It's interesting that so many people are on the same page, yet it's such a common rule on forums not to revive threads. xD I guess it matters more in really, really active communities as well.

I never was a fan of those large Pokemon forums, which is what drew me to EGC in the first place, and in turn what drew me here. Small, tight nit, warm and friendly, helps me remain sane.

I'm not sure why those large bustling communities forbade necromancy, I won't judge, i am sure it is because they are so big and can afford clutter. Idk. But it is alright in my book, as long, as it is not shitposting. Only i am allowed to shitpost.

I'd say no because that's the textbook answer, but given how smaller forums tend to have lower activity levels, it usually hurts more than helps, so I'd make an exception.
