CHAPTER 11: Play Date!
Petey was finally back to his old ways and was up before the sun and downstairs working out. As he was finishing up he could hear the pitter patter of little feet above him. It could only mean one thing and that his son Jack was up. It wasn't odd for Jack to be up this early because he would come down and do his own little workout. A few moments later the door to the gym was pushed open and the small boy walked in with his teddy bear in hand.
"Good morning Jackson."
"Morning Daddy."
Petey walked over and sat on the bench and held his arms out as Jack walked over. The small boy wrapped his arms around Daddy as Petey picked him up and sat him on his knee.
"What would you say to having Daddy all day long?"
"You don't have to work?"
"Nope. You get me all day."
Jack looked unsure at first but snuggled into Daddy after a moment. He was more than glad to be able to spend time with Daddy. He sat there still snuggled into Daddy playing with his teddy bear before looking up.
"Can we go to the park?"
"I don't see why not."
Jack had that excited look on his face as he gave Daddy a big hug. He then looked down hearing his tummy growl.
"But first we will do breakfast."
Jack nodded his head hearing his tummy growl again. Petey stood up with Jack in his arms and made his way up the stairs and into the kitchen. He sat Jack on one of the stools as the small boy sat his teddy bear on the counter.
"What are we going to do for breakfast?"
"Chocolate chip waffles!"
"Chocolate chip waffles it is then."
Jack grinned big as he sat at the counter. Petey started pulling a few things out and setting them on the counter. Jack leaned up to watch what Daddy was doing. After a moment Jack hopped down off of the stool and pulled it around the counter and climbed back up next to Daddy as he took the bag of chocolate chips and opened them up. He then poured some into a cup as Petey was mixing up the batter. Jack poured a little bit into the mixing bowl as Petey kept mixing. After a moment or so Jack had poured all of the chocolate chips into the bowl as Petey mixed it all up and then started pouring the batter into the waffle maker and closing the lid.
“You want to set the table?”
“Kay.”
Jack climbed down off of the stool and pushed it back from where he got it from. Petey pulled a few plates and handed two of them to Jack as he placed them on the table and then getting the silverware and placing it on the table as well.
"Daddy want his shake?"
"Only if you make it for me."
Jack grinned big as Petey pulled a few things down and sat them on the counter. Jack pulled the milk from the fridge and placed it on the counter before climbing back up onto the stool he was on earlier. He measured out the protein powder and dumped it into the shaker and the filled it with milk. Petey put the top on to make sure it was on good and tight. Jack hopped off the stool and took the shaker and started shaking as hard as he could. Petey couldn’t help but to laugh a bit at how Jack was mixing up his shake. After a moment or so Jack held up the shaker as Petey took it and twisted the top off.
“Looks like you just got your workout in just by mixing up my shake for me.”
"It's hard work making Daddy's shake."
They both laughed as Petey placed the waffles on the table. Jack looked up on the counter to see his teddy bear still sitting up there where he had left it. Petey walked over and grabbed the teddy bear and handed it to his son.
"Thank you Daddy."
"You're welcome. What would you like to drink?"
"Apple juice please."
Petey nodded as Jack climbed up in the chair at the table and sat his teddy bear next to his plate. Petey grabbed the maple syrup and apple juice and sat them on the table before sitting down. Jack grabbed one of the waffles and poured the maple syrup all over it before taking a bite.
"Mmm Daddy makes good waffles."
"Just like Jack makes good shakes."
They both grinned at each other as they kept eating until all the waffles were gone. Petey took the plates and set them in the sink as Jack helped clear the table off. Petey washed the dishes as Jack finished up his apple juice and sat the cup on the counter and grabbed his teddy bear from the table.
"Daddy needs to take a shower can you make sure your bed is made and things are picked up?"
"Kay."
"And then you can get dressed and we'll go."
Jack nodded his head and ran through the house and into his room. Petey made his way up to his room and grabbed a clean set of clothes and hopped into the shower. Jack picked up his room a bit and put his dirty clothes in his basket. He then did his best to make his bed and sat his teddy bear on the bed next to the pillow. Petey had stepped out of the shower and dried off and got dressed. He walked down the hall and stepped into his sons room. Jack was just pulling his shirt on over his head as he grinned at Daddy.
"All clean and ready."
“Let’s get going then.”
Jack nodded his head as the two walked out of the house. Jack climbed into his car seat in the back and buckled himself in as Petey got into the drivers seat. Petey pulled out of the driveway and headed towards the park. Jack sat in his seat looking out the window before looking over at Daddy.
“Ms. Molly seemed really nice the other day.”
Petey looked back at Jack through the rear view mirror a bit surprised that Jack brought up Molly.
“She does does she?”
“Yeah and she’s really pretty.”
“Does Jack have a crush on Ms. Molly?”
Jack couldn’t help but to laugh and shake his head no. Though the tinge of pink in the little boys cheeks could say different.
"No Daddy."
"Are you sure? Your red cheeks say different."
"Daddy!"
The small boy whined as he rubbed his face hoping to make the redness in his cheeks go away. Petey couldn't help but to laugh as he pulled into the parking lot and parked the car.
"Hey I'm not the one that was taking my shirt off for her."
Jack buried his face in his hands as Petey laughed even more. He got out of the car and made his way around and opened the door. Jack looked up all red faced from embarrassment as Petey smirked.
"I swear Daddy you're gonna get it."
Jack pointed at Daddy before undoing his seat belt and climbing out of the car. Petey picked up the small boy and kissed his head.
"You know I'm just kidding."
"I know Daddy."
The small boy wrapped his arms around Daddy's neck and gave him a big hug as Petey sat him back down and they both started running towards the play structure. Jack wasted no time climbing up the play structure as Petey watched his son. Jack climbed around on the play structure as Petey walked over and sat on on of the swings. He couldn't help but to think about Molly. In his mind he didn't think he had any chance of being with her. Though he had gotten use to having just Jack around that he never really thought about dating again.
"Daddy?"
Petey had been lost in his thoughts that he didn't even noticed that Jack had walked over to him.
"Whatcha thinking about Daddy?"
"Just things."
"Ms. Molly....?"
Petey looked at his son before standing up and shook his head. He didn't want to get his hopes up on anything.
"Daddy isn't going to get his hopes up on anything right now."
He had hoped he would be better off just keeping up with the way he was going for the time being. Jack hopped up on the swing as Petey started pushing him. He had a son to take care of and that had always been his first priority. He didn't think he'd have time for anything else right now.
