When you were a child, how did you view this "adult world"? And as an adult now (if you are) how do you currently view the "adult world"?
When you were a child, how did you view this "adult world"? And as an adult now (if you are) how do you currently view the "adult world"?
As a child, i played as a child, i talked as a child, and slept as a child. When i was an adult, i put all my childish things behind.
In other words, adulting is haaard!

As a kid, I thought it would be nice to have more freedom.
As an adult, I wish I had fewer bills. Also I'm more cynical; sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be naive again. But I really don't miss much about being a kid because I never really grew out of my kid phase, tbh. No one should. We should all relearn how to see the world with the same curious wonder as children do...and pursue your interests like children do!
This is my favorite quote ever:
"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

I'm still naive, although sometimes it's by choice. I like to maintain what innocence I still have. xD I love many "childish" things but I also love aspects of being an adult, such as being able to drive myself places and having no obligation to tell my mother what time I'll be home. xD It's nice to make your own choices and decisions.
As a child, I thought that all adults were boring, not fun, and had lost their sense of childhood happiness and playfulness. I think it actually turned into something of a fear of mine to become an adult. I never wanted to grow up. As a teenager, everyone around me would be like "I can't wait to become 18 and get my license and drink and go to clubs and bars" and I was like "I wish I was 11 again." xD I think I'm still pretty childish, but I like that about myself and I wouldn't change it. It gives me somewhat of an innocent appearance and I think it can make me approachable. People also may underestimate me which gives me the advantage of surprise. ;3
I feel the same way. As a kid, adult life seemed horribly boring, unimaginative, and mundane. True, for some people it is, but those people choose to be that way. The thing is you don't have to be. Being an adult means YOU get to decide how your own story keeps going. If you want to be serious, boring, and mundane because that's how you feel you comfortably mature, that's up to you. There are some that keep saying "oh, act your age," but that's all a selective perception. At the end of the day, age is just a number. There's no personality traits tied to age numbers, so all that number ends up being is just how many times people sang Happy Birthday to you.
The most interesting people I know aren't "normal." They aren't "status-quo." They didn't change themselves because society said so or because someone said to them "mature" like it's the magic word to make them grow up and become complacent.
Sure, some things you grow out of, but you don't have to grow out of everything. You don't have to grow out of being imaginative, creative, and unique. Those that do are typically very dull. Ask yourself, would you rather hang out with an animator at Pixar, or an accountant? Who do you think has more interesting work stories to tell? Whose work do you think gets remembered more and gets seen by more people?
Don't be status quo. I find the more you try to blend in with everyone else, the more you just disappear into the crowd.
For the most part, I was fascinated with the freedoms that came with being an adult. As a child, you're much more limited. So, I literally couldn't wait to do the things I wanted to do simply because I could. Now that I'm an adult, it's a lot like that, but it's definitely not all that it's hyped up to be.

Honestly people that want to judge you for liking things that they deem childish are exactly what they accuse you of being. Projection is a powerful thing. There are some that keep saying "oh, act your age," but that's all a selective perception. At the end of the day, age is just a number. There's no personality traits tied to age numbers, so all that number ends up being is just how many times people sang Happy Birthday to you.
Best thing about being an adult is that you can combine your childlike wonder and passions with things (i.e. dirty jokes and other abstract thoughts that never would have occurred to you as a child because undeveloped frontal lobe) that you...picked up as an adult

This is true. When you think about it, watching sports, which is something plenty of adults do, could be considered "childish" with the same mindset, but it's only seen as okay because most of society has just learned to accept it.
A lot of the things today would have seemed "nerdy" some time ago. Star Wars movies, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings might have seemed "nerdy" but that connotation was shoveled out when it turned out most people like those things anyway.
One thing I realize is that when I was a kid, I had more time, but less money. As an adult, you have more money, but less time. Wouldn't it be cool if you could wire-transfer like $2000 to your kid self to go all out? That would have rocked my childhood. XD
I think as you grow older, especially our generation, you carry what you enjoyed in your childhood with you into your adulthood - to a lesser degree, of course. I know plenty of individuals whom are adult that have no issue claiming their love for anime, video games, movies that would label you a "nerd", etc.
