I won't try to stop you, but unless all of our Security-having Emissaries are indisposed, I'd avoid it, so that you don't have to take future downtime. Maybe you could interview Bonnie the Nidoqueen, to get more details about what was going on while Sampson the Snubbull was killed?

It doesn't matter for Search posts. If there's something to be found at a location, you'll find it regardless of what cycle.

The only exception is if your character is in Berserk state. Only then would a search post make it look like nothing was found when really there's something there.
