Thousands Of Fake Pokémon Plush Toys Caught In South Korea

South Korean authorities recently discovered a large stockpile of bootleg Pokémon plush toys!

In South Korea, authorities have seized a massive haul of fake plush toys. Reports put the total at somewhere around 530,000 phony plushies were found in total. It is speculated that the unofficial plushies were smuggled into South Korea between April 25 and June 2. They were then illegally circulated in arcades as crane game prizes. Once authorities caught on that unlicensed Chinese-made plush toys of Pokémon and other characters like Totoro were circulating in South Korea, they also removed the fake ones from arcades as seen in a KBS TV broadcast that you can see here. This particular stockpile largely contains Pokémon plushies including characters like Alolan Vulpix, Wartortle, Pikachu, and more. The total stockpile is reportedly worth over six million dollars.

Urf, and the thing is I know what they usually do with them all in cases like this. They usually just outright destroy them. I still remember that image of a steamroller crushing a huge pile of counterfeit Winnie the Pooh dolls. Ouch.

Usually knock-offs are lousy and have dumb and obvious differences compared to the original, but these actually look pretty close to the real deal and would have fooled me. I can't stand crane games though. Those things are the devil.

It makes me sad to think of all those plushies being destroyed, fake or not. :c
