It's because you were raised here
Do you think it is okay to dismiss someone's argument because of demographical phrases such as "it's because you were raised here", "it's because you are white", etc?
Personally, no. This is actually one of the ways to get my really angry, really fast. I usually take stuff like this to mean because of some quality about yourself that you have no control over you somehow don't know any better about the issue at hand. I commonly get slapped with this label when discussing the Confederate flag, the black lives matter movements, LGBTQIA rights, and other hot-button issues as of late. And I'll admit I'm guilty of ripping someone a new one on several occasions for doing something like this because I don't like having my authority undermined when I know what I'm talking about.
But what are your thoughts? Do you think this is acceptable in some cases?
