Nah, stress is an American expectation. The Type A workaholic mentality is viewed very admirably in the States. Even in the workplace, you're surrounded by rules, deadlines, expectations, and stress. There's a good reason why so many people hate their jobs here. And many of these things could be so easily eliminated if the people on top were just a little bit more sympathetic, understanding, and compassionate.
The best leaders are the ones that know what it's like to be on the bottom. And those born into privilege are the worst simply because they don't know and understand their own people. There's a fine difference between a manager that worked their way up from the bottom and the one that got their role because they knew somebody high up who just gave it to them.
I absolutely LOATHE the phrase "it's not what you know, it's who you know." People putting this into practice and making that their credo is why this country has so many problems with leadership in so many places.
