Well, His work in the blacksmith shop is only part-time, as is his thieves guild activity. Recalling that he wants to go out and travel. Then possibly return to take over as Jarl. These are just ideas that I've had going in. As you've said, ideas tend to change. Right now I have to ask, who is the Jarl from the start? Is it Maven or Laila? Also, I was always under the impression that the greatest of Blacksmiths was Eorlund Gray-Mane. That's why I chose to train Vorgu under him. So your character could either stand to learn something from Vorgu (if he knows more than Menora, because his smithing skill for me takes a bit of precedence over all things. So if there was a level 100 skill he had, it'd be smithing), and become friendly with him. Or you can see him as a rival, and constantly challenge your character to be better than him.
I honestly haven't decided. I mean if anyone would actually take on the role of Aela, I wouldn't mind pursuing some sort of romantic thing, but if she were to stay NPC, I would most likely stick to shield brother as a whole. Also, I don't know how I feel about the two Dovahkiin being in the thieves guild, or associate with each other. Because I just feel like a better story or twist would come of two very different people becoming the Dovahkiin. Like, a warrior type and a thief type. Or a mage. You know? Two different people, lifestyles, and beliefs both sharing a common destiny to kill giant winged lizards and save Skyrim.
And so Brynolf won't know about Vorgu being a Nightingale. Also in that sense, Vorgu will conceal his identity around Mercer as best he can, or just avoid Mercer entirely. I pointed out that Nocturnal may have pointed out to the other Nightingales that Vorgu is a Nightingale, because she can do that. I guess that Vorgu can be made to seek out Eclipse and Karliah. Or encounter them when he leaves on his travels.
