To be short, sleep is divided into two stages. REM and Non-REM. REM stands for rapid eye movement, because in this stage, the sleeping person's eyes rapidly twitch all over the damn place. This stage is when dreams occur, and it's theorized that the eye-twitching is because of the person's dreams. if you're woken up into this, you'll be able to remember dreams vividly.
