Hello, and welcome to my humble little section where I will be posting different poetical sections created by myself, Popshakes. If anyone would like to give criticism or praise to my works, please, feel free to do so. :)

My poetry is usually, if not always, written in free verse. It helps me release my creativity better than to limit myself to structures. Also, I will be writing about both Pokemon and other genre-related poems.

Poem Title: Unappreciated yet Loved
Genre: Pokemon-related
Element: Water
Written: 2013

Always taken advantage of -
never seen for what it's worth.
The life bringer from above -
the life bringer from below -
no one seems to notice the drops,
as they fall from the sky -
nor do they notice the waves,
crashing beneath them.

It's what one makes of them,
the drops from above -
the waves from below.

Countless times I feel their tears,
washing across my face.
So many times I feel the waves,
crashing beneath my feet.

The beauty that this element creates.
The beauty that comes from their tears.
We all take advantage of it -
although some love it with so much care.

It showers us with happiness and sorrow -
pulls us towards it,
as it crashes about our ankles,
wanting us to take part in their festivities.

Like a siren calling from the sea,
the moon controls the motion of their emotions -
as they bathe under the moonlight,
feeling affection from above.

Whether foreboding a tale of woe,
for the cunning sailor -
or crying on the shoulder,
of a broken lover -
it's always there for someone in this world.

Although unappreciated by most,
and cared for by few -
the creatures of the sea,
and the plant life of the world,
welcome their noble guest,
as it provides life and shelter.

The element of the sky,
the element of the sea -
together they sing a lonely song,
together they weep.

I care for the sky,
I care for the sea -
I watch as they show their love,
in a waltz across the sky.

Under the sun,
and beneath the clouds -
they show their appreciation,
in a beautiful spectrum of colors.

The colors of their emotions,
spread out across the sky -
spread out over the sea.

Providing happiness for those who care -
and solace for those who are unaware -
a rainbow stretching out as far as the eye can see -
a spectrum for all to perceive.

Poem Title: Spirit World
Genre: Pokemon-related
Element: Ghost
Written: 2013

Somewhere deep in the woods I hear them -
whispering in my ear,
playing with my hair -
my spine chills when they're near.

Moans and groans fill my mind -
I cannot escape them -
these demons that follow me,
no matter where I wander.

I'm never alone -
I can feel their eyes peering through my soul.

Somewhere deep in an abandoned cabin I feel them -
stroking my cheek,
laughing at my screams -
my heart races when they're near.

Their taunting smirks fill the mirrors -
I can feel the glass behind me cracking a grin.

All I can do is wander -
wander down the halls,
every step I take I hear creaking -
laughs fill the hall as I enter the kitchen.

Somewhere deep in a broken kitchen I sense them -
banging the pots,
the fires roaring from the oven -
my skin pricks when they're near.

Knives fly here and there -
plates break as I trek forward,
the pieces scattering about my feet -
the feeling of hands grasp my own.

Their cold claws pierce my delicate skin -
their grimace burns into my mind as they disappear.

Somewhere deep in a broken mind I see them -
pointing and laughing,
baring their teeth at my pain -
I can no longer take this torture.

Trying to escape that masquerade -
trying to make out what's real,
the spirits take form -
they take a shape uncanny to any other I've seen.

A ball of gaseous horror begins to bare it's teeth -
his hands appearing from nowhere as it disconnects from the body.

Somewhere deep in a broken world there are no laws -
figures appearing out of thin air,
tormenting any who stray near -
that's the world I live in now.

I can feel his breath on my face -
the gas emitting from the specter nauseating.

As his grip tightens I can feel my life slipping -
but as soon as it begins the feeling fades,
as the sunlight glimmers some hope -
I watch as the ghastly figure disintegrates.

Somewhere deep in the woods is a broken child -
a child who witnessed the horrors of the undead,
ghosts as some may call them -
demons from beyond.

Petrified emotionally -
a nervous wreck crawling towards the light,
the only solace in the terrifying darkness -
I feel a whisper blowing into my ear:

One day you shall return to our realm -
and when you do we'll be waiting for you.

Here are some super old pieces I wrote back in '08. Back then, I was really emotional and into writing poetry whenever I could. I believe I have about 100 poems that span from '08 - '09. Anyway, these are a couple I pulled out. Hopefully they still have meaning after all of this time. I've revised them *very* slightly since they had some grammatical errors, but, other than that, I didn't really touch up on them.

Poem Title: Unholy and Unworthy
Genre: Spiritual
Written: 2008

Neither holy 'nor worthy.
Neither here or there.
My soul drifts on,
forever there.

Encased in your heart,
are the tears you shed-
are the tears I gave you.

No more will you hurt-
no more past this time-
neither holy 'nor worthy-
my love for you is nevermore.

I caused you pain.
yes 'tis true.
No more to say-
nothing at all-
just like how I am now...

Nothing at all-
my gift to you-
my sweet angel.

Poem Title: Meadows of Heaven
Genre: Spiritual
Written: 2008

Brightened fields
in the wake of morn,
sing-song sky,
fluttering life among us.

Gleaming waters,
chirping wind,
flowers blooming,
meadows of heaven.

Whistling trees,
blowing past laced wraps,
in the frozen seas,
past the hidden wonders.

Dying sky,
withering wind,
last song of gleam,
faint be the heavens.

Once more,
forever more.

Poem Title: Humming Wonders
Genre: Spiritual/Autumn
Written: 2008

Emotions captured,
in the motionless movement.
Senses emitted,
watching the hidden treasures
of the humming wonders,
ringing throughout my head.

Kept awake as the trees slowly blow,
rustling leaves,
swinging around and around in circles
around my feet as I take a step,
my feet crunching on the broken leaves.

Visual perception,
brought to life by the colors,
vibrant and gold as they shine down against me,
with the ground who breathes every pulsed sensation.

Knowing not of where I go,
just as long as the waking of the world
brings me back into the blue memory,
which I've grown to love-
in my yearnings and helplessness.

Silent as the night whispers,
my legs move on,
keeping forth as I continue-
following the humming wonders,
ringing throughout my head.

Never aware,
not even as sure as the humble squirrel-
I carry on forth,
going forth and onwards throughout the wonders,
which draws me near,
with no fear to aid my side.

Poem Title: Together Forever
Genre: Love
Written: 2008

Forever in my heart you'll be-
never to be harmed by others-
never to be torn from my soul.

Forever in my grasp,
as I am in yours.

Bonded into one long chain-
connected to the small pendant-
that binds us together into a single heart.

Truly-
faithfully,
we'll be together throughout time.

No matter how far you go-
no matter how far we travel,
anything is possible when we come together.

Like friends binded throughout friendship-
like lovers coursed throughout each others own mind...
...we'll always be there-
throughout each others hearts.

Slowly as we reach our peak,
we find each other again-
like we never left.

As our hearts sung out our hymns-
we found each other-
once again.

Poem Title: Love Is...
Genre: Love
Written: 2009

Love is jumping up and down -
when the one you love,
holds your hand and smiles,
because you're their world -
as they are yours.

Love is screaming -
for no apparent reason,
at your animals,
about your day and how it was spent -
loving the one who's always there for you.

Love is happiness -
when you least expect it,
when they hug you behind the waist,
telling you that they love you -
and you mean the entire world to their eyes.

Love is when you wake up -
unexpectedly,
and the first thing you hear,
are the words from your loved one,
telling you: "I love you".

Love is when you know,
that no matter how hard the rain pours,
through the sleet and hail -
that love is close,
even in the smallest of places.

Poem Title: Stronger, no Longer
Genre: Emotional
Written: 2008

Why can't I close my eyes?
Fly to the skies,
wanting to fall down.

Time has taken its toll,
but still-
my heart leaps to go on,
but I'm no longer stronger in the dark.

I feel the pain in myself-
feeling my darkest memories,
pulling me apart-
piece by piece.

I'm broken,
but I open my eyes.
I'm no longer able to go on,
my voice can't be heard.

I know what I want,
and I know what I need-
but sometimes I've fallen,
and I plead-

I'm stronger, no longer in the darkness,
wanting a reason to continue on-
for I need the hand of another,
to pull me back up.

Poem Title: Decisions, Choices, Life...
Genre: Emotional
Written: 2009

Decisions, choices, life.
All one spiraling circle-
all one spiraling clock going out of control.

Would you dance for me,
if I were to dance with you?

Decisions, choices, life.
People tend not to listen,
when others only want to be heard.

Would you care for me,
how I have cared for you?

Would you come to my hospital room,
if I ended up in an accident?

Decisions, choices, life.
One step beyond the boundary,
could greatly impact anothers life.

If I were to fall helplessly,
would you come to my rescue or leave me in the dust?

If I had a gun pointed at my head,
would you take the bullet or run?

Decisions, choices, life.
If I can stop and take a moment,
could you?

Nobody ever knows,
what others may go through.
Assuming the reality,
they see others enter.

Nobody ever knows,
what pain you may be in.
Assuming the perfect picture,
even though you beg and you beg to be seen.

Taking time,
to stop and think of another-
may end up being,
the best you can do.

If you were to fall victim to a painful cry,
would you want someone?
Someone to reach out for?

If you were to cry out helplessly into the darkest hours,
would you long for someone?
Someone to hold tight,
and wish the nightmare-
would just blow away?

Many among us wish the same.
When others instead party all day.

Now, when looking at your friends,
if I were to die-
who would fill my spot-
the friend you never took the time for...

...as I waste away on my death bed?

Poem Title: So Close
Genre: Love
Written: 2010

When we met,
I never knew we'd be so close.
We were just friends-
who turned out to be more.

A friend who cheers me up,
who makes me smile-
who makes me enjoy the simple things.
A friend who turned out to be more.

You make me rise when I fall.
You makes me smile when I think I can't.
Being there for me-
even when I seclude myself from everyone else.

We are good friends, who became more,
and I'm loving every day.
You make me a better person,
slowly but surely.

There are even those days,
where depression hits hard.
But, you still know how to make me smile,
and I love that about you.

We're such close friends,
and I hope we will be forever-
because I can't see myself,
living without your comforting embrace.

You know how to love,
you know how to live.
I love you so much Sean,
forever I will.

This poem was written for my boyfriend's sixteenth birthday in a giant collage of notes, poems, pictures, etc made by me with the help of friends. FYI, we're still together. ;D High school sweethearts since '08, our freshman year, for the win. <3

Poem Title: Spread my Wings
Type: Free Verse
Pokemon: Caterpie/Metapod/Butterfree
Written: 2014

Among the group I'm different -
painted in beautiful colors unlike my siblings.

Gold skin wraps around my body tenderly.
Though modest with nature I can't help myself -
I'm too glamorous for my own good.

All I want is to be free -
find others like myself with this incurable disease.
My skin shimmers -
my skin glows -
it's unnatural and I want to find an escape.

Accused of being a monster -
accused of nothing more than looking different -
is this what the world has come to?

In the Viridian woods I find myself alone -
without my mother,
without my siblings -
who needs them?

Their resentment kept me going -
inching my way through the tall grass I find an opening.
It isn't long before I find myself thrown against a tree nearby.
My eyes catch a glimpse of a human and their Pokemon.

Their excitement is baffling -
I'm only a bug-type,
what more could they want with me?

The tall, human child chants: "Shiny! Shiny!" over and over -
like a ritual about to take place.
Their Pokemon partner stands before me,
lingering around as his burning tail sets the grass before me ablaze.

My heart hammers,
my pulse races -
the heat is almost too unbearable before I faint to the smell of burning grass.

I awaken to darkness.

Haunting memories fill my mind,
the longing for my family wraps around my heart and tugs.

I inch and inch to no avail -
no escape, no light -
not even my shimmer can break through the darkness.

I am alone, lost, confused -
where am I?

Before long a red beam swirls around my body -
thrown out onto the cold, hard concrete -
my body shimmers and sparkles under the heat of the sun.

Peering eyes weigh my body down -
the trainer from before stands above me yelling out inaudible orders.
Confusion sets in as my body is flown into a nearby bush.
Now's my chance.

I wriggle, I climb -
however my shimmer is a giveaway.

The child pulls and tugs at my tail -
uncertainty fills me as my defences raise.
A shield of orange encases my body in a flash of light -
evolution.

Electricity pulses through my body -
sticky strings of yellow flash itself upon the boy.
Cries of pain fill the world around us -
the distraction plays into my escape...
... if only I could move.

Frozen like ice,
my body remains -
Unable to move an inch,
I'm unmovable.

Anger fills the child's eyes -
a white and red capsule within his free hand.
Before long my vision fades -
back into the darkness.

Serves me right -
being born different.

My dream to be normal -
to fit in within this world...
... gone.

However, within the darkness,
my soul is at peace.
Although my vision is impaired I feel normal,
for the first time in forever.

No more shimmer,
no more shine.
For once I'm a normal Pokemon.
For once I can breath easy.

Chained within these unloving walls,
I've finally found the solace I was longing for -
however, was it all for naught?

My heart longs for another -
my soul longs to be part of the world.
Have I given in too easily?
Is there more to the world than resentment and pain?

Questions unanswered -
questions lingering within the darkness.

I squirm and I writhe -
I scream and I cry.

My hope for freedom was dwindling -
then it happened.

My body was tossed from the darkness -
trees filled my vision with the smell of burnt grass as I landed in a familiar bush.

The trainer stood before me -
a small growl escaped trembling lips.

"My shiny, why don't you listen?
Why don't you obey?"

Anger fueled itself into tears.
Unable to respond,
only able to watch with fearful eyes.

Without warning his hand rose -
my heart leapt -
was this the end?
Was this all I was meant for?

In one swoop a ball smashed before me,
pieces striking my hardened, orange skin.

Confusion swept the field.

No more words -
only tears as the boy raced off.

I was alone once again -
without my family,
without my trainer.

Darkness fell before me -
stars painted their glow upon my burnt skin.
I was unable to move -
unable to fend for myself.

Was this my true purpose?
No - this was only the climax.

Scared that I was in delusion I tried once more -
to break free from the ice that bound me.

I wriggled, I writhed -
it was hopeless.
Or so I thought.

Through my efforts -
through my trials something clicked that night.

Beautiful, light pink wings sprouted through my cracking skin -
black feelers felt the world around me for the first time.

I broke through my barriers and embraced life,
for the first time.

Pink appendages gave me the right-away to a whole new world -
I felt everything around me,
the trees, grass, my old shell...
... everything had a meaning.

The moon resonated it's glow against my bright, shimmering skin -
I felt renewed,
as if the moon had breathed life back into me.

Although I was born with this incurable disease,
I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Others may reject me -
but it makes me unique.

For the first time in forever I spread my wings,
ready to take on the world and find a purpose.
Ready to find others like myself -
and find my destiny in this world.

O: All your poems are really good, even the older ones. And hahaha, the emotional ones reminds me of when I went through a pretty emo stage and wrote depressing poems and diary entries. xD It's sort of funny to read over them now. I do like yours though, in all their dramatic-ness. XD

One error I felt I had to point out was the poem to Sean where it says "You makes me smile" when it should be "make" obviously. xD It's the second line on the third stanza.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your shiny poem. It is positively awesome and you deserved the winning spot in the writing contest, so well done. :D
