We have questions and these podcasters have answers.
As part of Pokemon Podcast Month, we have asked some of our newer Pokemon Podcasters some questions. They have come far and wide in the Pokemon community to come together to answer questions regarding podcasting. Some of these questions are able the love and why they podcast. Meanwhile, we ask the hard hitting questions as in the troubles of podcasting. Overall, we wanted to give some insight on the magic of Pokemon podcasting.
Today we have the following answering our Pokemon Podcast questionnaire:
Ceci and Derik from Pokemon Radio
Welcome to our Podcaster Questionnaire for Pokemon Podcast Month!
What inspired you to podcast? What is your thought process when it comes to picking music for your podcast?
Ceci: Early in the pandemic, Derik and I had a standing weekly FaceTime call, and we were playing through Pokémon Sword and Shield together. Our Pokémon discussions began to take up so much time on our weekly call that we decided to start a podcast where we could talk about Pokémon for as long as we wanted to.Derik: I talk way too much and my cat is tired of listening to me.
When you record your podcast, who do you wish to reach with it?
Ceci: We create all of our own music using GarageBand audio loops. For our satirical “ads” I just try to match the energy/humor of the ad and hope it works!
Derik: I listen to hours of different artists that inspire me and use deep meditation to come to a decision. And by that I mean Ceci picks the music. What is the hardest part when it comes to podcasting?
Ceci: Other late-20/early-30 year olds that grew up loving Pokémon games! Whether you still play or not, we try to bring a fun and fresh perspective on games we have played hundred of hours in.
Derik: My fellow 30 year old Pokemon fans questioning why the children in these games all accomplish more than we ever will. What has been the best Podcast moment you have had?
Ceci: Scheduling – it’s easy to find enough content for a longform podcast when you’re just hanging out with your best friend, but we both work full time jobs and are involved in a lot of activities outside of podcasting. Finding enough time to play the games under whatever rule/restriction we’ve chosen for the season can be challenging, and coordinating our schedules to record after we’ve both finished playing the section of game we’ll be discussing can be nearly impossible. But we make it work!
Derik: Actually playing the games. I never realized how many hours I used to pour into them and how little free time I end up with currently.Huge thank you to Ceci and Derik for taking the time to answer these questions.
Ceci: We created the satirical ads to make the show feel more like an in-universe radio show, but in so doing we’ve created some hysterical running gags: TinyMushrooms and the PokeMart come to mind!
Derik: Getting to sing “Toxic” by Britney Spears in character as Koga in the voice of Chad Kroeger from Nickelback.
We hope you lovers of this fine podcast also enjoy learning a bit about what makes podcasting so amazing and challenging.
Make sure to give them a review on Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcatcher! Don’t touch that Totodile! See you all next time!
