It is no mystery dungeon why this podcast is loved!
July is Pokemon Podcast Month. A month where we get to celebrate our favorite Pokemon podcasts.
Pokemon Podcasts have a vast array of hosts. All of them come from various backgrounds and think in different way. The one thing that they all have in common is that they host their podcast as if they are a friend. A friend where you can come to every episode in hopes to have a conversation with them. One where you can enjoy their company for various minutes as you do something from driving, enjoying a meal or just doing something in your everyday life.
Still, as friends you want to get to know them a bit better. So we have taken the chance to ask some of your favorite Pokemon podcasters various of questions. Some of these questions range from podcasting in general to why they simply love Pokemon. Overall, we want to give you a chance to get closer to the friends that you love to listen and talk to every episode.
Today we have the following answering our Pokemon Podcast questionnaire:
Chris from Mystery Dungeons & Darkrais.
What drew you to the Pokemon franchise?

Chris: As a true 90s kid, I remember watching the very first episode of the anime when it aired – I was hooked from the moment Pikachu took down all those Spearow!
What inspired you to podcast?

Chris: Our DM, Coatsy, asked us if we were up for doing a Pokemon-style DND campaign podcast. I’d never played DND before, but I thought it’d be a good laugh. Then COVID happened and it provided a much needed distraction from the outside world, where we could escape to our region for a few hours at a time.
What is your thought process when it comes to picking music for your podcast?

Chris: I either write my own and have done some covers of various pieces from the games / anime (vs Red, Team Aqua, the occasional sea shanty), or I use Epidemic sound to source music.
The most important thing is trying to convey the moment – that might be suspense or trying to build tension, more mystical / ethereal sounds through to more epic battles with big orchestral sounds. A highlight for me was doing the Pirates of the Caribbean esque Tentacruel-Kraken soundtrack!
What keeps you going when it comes to podcasting and Pokemon?

Chris: Pokemon will always be a lifelong love, from the TCG to the games. Once upon a time Coatsy and I used to attend VGC events close friend of ours is still heavily involved in the official events. Podcasting has been a surprise joy and while we have so much fun playing and recording, it’s mostly the messages of appreciation and seeing how engaged our listeners are that keeps us putting out content!
When you record your podcast, who do you wish to reach with it?

Chris: Other like-minded people that enjoy Pokemon, our stupid sense of humour and pop culture references.
What is the hardest part when it comes to podcasting?

Chris: Finding enough time to get together! We all live fair distances away so often we have to resort to Zoom, but even then the sad realities of work and other commitments often get in the way.
What has been the best Podcast moment you have had?

Chris: So many to choose from, but for me personally it was our Endgame arc and finishing the campaign. Such a buildup and release of emotions, but also a melancholy goodbye to the character I played for 2.5 years.
Huge thank you to Chris for taking the time to answer these questions.
We hope you enjoy this moment with your friend if you are a listener of this podcast. If you are not then how about you take a chance and make a new friend by listening to Mystery Dungeons and Darkrais.
Make sure to give them a review on Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcatcher! Don’t touch that Totodile! See you all next time!
