One is always a good place to start.
All Pokemon podcasts start somewhere. This start can be anywhere from simply recording in your bedroom to simply just getting a microphone with your friends. Either way, all of the Pokemon podcasts you listen to now have found their footing. They are in a spot where they are happy with what they are producing. Well, some are still striving to do better. And that is fine.
So in this feature for Pokemon Podcast Month we want to look at some podcasts to see where they have started and what their hosts think is their best in the last year. So go ahead and join us as we look back at the the episodes of Pokemon podcast past.

Pokemon Variety Hour

Episode 0: Get to Know Us!
Riely’s Thoughts: Oh boy, Episode 0, the beginning of our long legacy. In this episode, me and 2 of my 3 co-hosts at the time introduced ourselves and the show. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I know I was definitely nervous. A Pokemon podcast I was previously involved with ended due to unfortunate circumstances that I won’t detail here, but coming off of that I was scared that we wouldn’t be able to recapture the magic. Fortunately, it quickly became apparent that I was wrong.
Episode 125: Ash Ketchum
Riely’s Thoughts: We’ve had a few pretty good ones, but I’d say my favorite is our 125th episode, in which my co-hosts Anirudh, Alex, and I discussed Ash Ketchum. This was coming fresh off the heels of Ash’s crowning as world champion, and I was thinking a lot about the character of Ash Ketchum and all the little things I so greatly appreciate about him, and I got to share them and have a great discussion with my friends about the recently retired hero of the Pokemon anime. It was a great time!

Out of the Drying Pan

Episode 1: So Much Nostalgia
Alex, Austin, & Jacob’s Thoughts: We jumped right in with the first three episodes of Indigo League, and definitely had a nervous energy (some more than others).
Episode 63: Pokémon Rules!!!
Alex, Austin, & Jacob’s Thoughts: For recording? Definitely our season 3 premiere, where we mostly spent our time having fun reviewing the promotional videos for the Pokemon The Movie 2000 soundtrack. It’s definitely the year 2000 and we had a blast lampooning it.

Luke Loves Pokemon

Episode 1: Bulbasaur and Family
Luke’s Thoughts: My first episode was Bulbasaur. I had no idea if anyone would listen or how this kind of scripted podcast would work. I’m mostly happy with it, though days after declaring Bulbasaur NOT A FROG, that Lets Go trailer came out where Venusaur hops like a frog.
Episode 436: Bronzor and Family
Luke’s Thoughts: Bronzong was part of the inspiration for this podcast, so finally doing that episode of the podcast felt really fulfilling. Its also a nice case of a Pokémon I wasn’t that interested in but when I learned more, it became much cooler to me, which is something I really love about doing this podcast.
We hope you enjoy this look at these Pokemon podcasts’s humble beginnings and where they are now. Surely some things have changed but the love for podcasting is still there.
Thank you and come back for our next installment of Humble Beginnings.
