An update regarding Pokemon Bank has gone out!
In the past year we have seen Nintendo shut down things like the 3DS Shop. Recently they have announced that online play and other online functions will end their service for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in April 2024. With this, Pokemon has announced how this will effect Pokemon Bank.
Regarding Pokemon Bank

With the news of the online support for the 3DS games, Pokemon has stated that they will continue to support online functionality for Pokemon Bank. They stated that Pokemon Bank will continue to be available after April 2024.
Though, they also noted that they will not maintain online functionality for Pokemon Bank indefinitely. They stated that there could be a possibility that the service will be terminated in the future. Lastly, they advise that players should transfer Pokemon in Pokemon Bank into Pokemon HOME as soon as possible.
In case you do not recall, Pokemon Bank is how players can transfer their Pokemon from their Pokemon DS games to their Pokemon 3DS games. Though, you can also transfer your Pokemon between any of your Pokemon 3DS games using Pokemon Bank. Recently Pokemon Bank can be used to transfer Pokemon into Pokemon HOME. Thus, these Pokemon can be used in the Pokemon Switch games.

We have seen Pokemon games based in the Sinnoh games receive remakes through Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl along with Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Thus, Pokemon from the Sinnoh region can be captured in a Switch based game. We still have Pokemon from Unova and Kalos that are stuck on the Pokemon 3DS games. Even from Hoenn! Some of these Pokemon include Furfrou, Meloetta and Castform. On the bright side, you can capture these Pokemon in Pokemon GO and move them to Pokemon HOME. Though, there is no Pokemon game on the Switch that they can be usable much less captured. So at the moment of the writing of this article, there is no way to capture these Pokemon on the Switch era games.
Regarding 3DS Era Pokemon Games

During the 3DS era, Game Freak added several online functions to their Pokemon games. From using the PSS to Wonder Trade, all these features used the online functions. There are still players who play those games to take part in random online battles. Granted, there are not many who do. Still, players use these features to connect with Pokemon players around the world to play Pokemon.
With Nintendo ending online support for these games, all these features that Game Freak implemented in the 3DS era games will become useless. While this is disheartening to hear it is a consequence of games becoming more online based. Maintaining such online servers for small percent of games that is using them can become costly and it may be best to focus on the current games that are being played by the wider player base.
Either way. We will see how long Pokemon will keep supporting online functionality for Pokemon Bank.
