What does Pokemon mean to you?

As I was growing up, Pokemon was a big thing in my world. I’d collected cards, watched the Anime, I even borrowed my friend’s Gameboy just so I could play the games for an hour at Day-Care. That is, until I got my own when LeafGreen came out.
And to this day, I’m still caught up in nostalgia whenever Pokemon’s mentioned. I still play the games (I bought a 3DS just for Gen VI) and while I don’t watch the anime much anymore, I love the fact that Netflix has the classic episodes on their Instant Streaming service.
So* then, I guess it’s my turn to tell the world exactly what Pokemon means to me.
Pokemon was and is an important part of my life. I made friends because of Pokemon, and my friends are one of the most important things to me.
It’s been the one thing from my childhood that I can’t really give up. I’ve never grown tired of it, and while that’s probably what the people at GameFreak want, it’s entirely true. I can still spend hours on end engrossed in the games or reading a wiki-page on a character or Pokemon that I’ve read a million times. It’s a whole big thing. I’m fascinated that even though the franchise has been around for over 20 years it still hasn’t run out of steam. That there are still new ideas and new ways to invigorate the series, and so for me, Pokemon isn’t just for “nerds”, it’s become a major part of my life.
I can only hope that trend continues, and I’m sure it will. So what does Pokemon mean to you?

Pokemon is more than just digital data or images on a TV or trading card--it is a whole world bursting with possibilities.

I have made a ton of friends around the world thanks to Pokemon, bettered my writing, and researched a myriad of topics. But I think this quote from Brock (my favorite character in the show) sums up what Pokemon is to me:

"Everyone has a dream that fills their heart. A journey they must take. A destiny to fulfill. As close as your imagination exists a magical place, where wondrous creatures with incredible powers help make dreams come true. It's the world of Pokemon!!"
