He goes back to the city and heals his Pokémon. After that he goes back to Viridian Forest to do his last training before challenging the gym leader.
Dennis sends out Mankey.
"Mankey, i think we are soon strong enough to beat the gym leader, i will need you in the gym battle so are you ready to train?" Dennis asks.
"MAANK! MANKEYY!" Mankey replies.
"I guess thats a yes, let's train!" Dennis says
