Which crobat line? If you've got it (this may be a longshot) go for the Plasma Storm ones! Night Sight ability gives you some draw support, no retreat cost- and it's Ultra Toxic Fang makes 4x poison damage than normal for three energy (two with the stadium)- downside is that it needs a psychic energy and would break your colorless streak. Blend energies work well though~ (I think one of the blends has fire and psychic)
I've been using the Phantom Forces ones to get in the extra damage that Hypnotoxic Lasers would normally do.

I would say use the Crobat from Phantom Forces. That one does damage when it evolves and if you need to attack then it can do it for a colorless.

Sounds like an interesting Metal deck. The Shield does seem to work if you plan to get it back using Excadrill.

I only play on the PTCGO where Raticate is pretty easy to get a hold of due to its inclusion in the Black and White Basic Red Deck, but with the reminder that rotation's coming up, I think the loss of Hypnotoxic Laser, Mew, and Raticate itself will be enough to put me off from seriously pursuing the deck. While all of the methods you described are pretty handy, I feel like the kill needs to happen in one blow because Mew and Raticate don't have the HP to stand up to any decent threats. The Ariados due in the next set might be able to be paired with Gourgeist or Doublade for a similar combo, but until then I think that the Mewrats dream is on its last legs.
