The Pokemon TCG Format has been announced for the 2015-2016 season, including the final date for our current format! What does that mean? Find out!
Earlier today there was a post on the official Pokemon website that has confirmed the XY-On Format (also known as Rotation), along with the date September 1st which will mark the beginning of our new format. This is an exciting time for players of the Pokemon TCG, because old cards leaving the format creates a large space for fresh new decks and cards to see play.
With the sets Boundaries Crossed, Plasma Storm, Plasma Freeze, Plasma Blast, and Legendary Treasures all being removed from competitive play, there are a whole wealth of cards and abilities that are going to be missed in the XY-on format. It may seem hard to imagine a format without cards like Keldeo-EX and Darkrai-EX, but we will soon be playing in a game without those options!

Cards like N will be sorely missed, though cards like Professor Juniper will be replaced by Professor Sycamore, a lot of the Pokemon are irreplaceable. The popular Virbank City Gym and Hypnotoxic Laser combo will be gone! Though we will lose a lot of cards, we will gain a wealth of options from new XY sets like the new Ancient Origins set that is releasing within a month!
Only time will tell what decks will come out on top after this change, but in the meantime restless players will undoubtedly be vying for their claim in this bold new format!
