    Pokémon Movies 1-3 set for Blu-Ray Release


    According to Pokebeach*and recently announced in Pokémon’s 20th anniversary trailer, Pokémon Movies 1-3, (Mewtwo Strikes Back, The Power of One and Spell of the Unown) will be released on Blu-Ray on February 9th, 2016. They are available for Pre-order as a set for $39.99.
    The special features included in the DVDs of the movies, are*not*known to*be present. It is speculated that this is perhaps because of expired rights. The movies will also be released in only 2.0 surround sound, while the DVDs were released in 5.1.

    I am really excited about this news, first off. Despite the apparent shortcomings, the movies will be presented in their original widescreen form, which is long overdue for a US home video release (even the last release from a few years ago when Warner Bros. itself still held the rights was pan-and-scan full screen, which was ridiculous and not really necessary since more and more households were getting widescreen TVs even then.)

    I was hoping we'd see a DVD/Blu-ray release of these movies following their showings on Cartoon Network and then on Pokémon TV for a couple of weeks each last summer.

    I just hope the Blu-Ray and DVDs aren't limited to being sold only by online retailers, though.
