With the shield breaking apart, I could see Maddox was trying to hold it together, but he wasn't doing such a bang up job. In the meanwhile, him being distracted with doing that made my job of keeping everyone else alive and relatively pain-free was a lot easier. He still hadn't figured me out from the other cops in the area, so at least my cover hadn't been blown yet.

"What the hell is all that!?" one of the soldier shouted, trying to talk above all the mayhem.

Obviously a lot of mage work. Well, to me it was obvious. To humans, this must have looked like the biggest, fiery mess of pyrotechnics and supernatural anarchy they've ever seen that made the Ghostbusters movie look like a sparkler in comparison.

"Why? WHY?" Maddox shouted. "We just want to go home and you're trying to kill us. Why won't you let us go home?"

Well, probably because you were trying to kill everyone else. That'd be my first guess.

I did a quick survey of everyone in the area, and the humans were fine. Some of them were still in complete shock that they should have died when they didn't, but otherwise it had worn off as they left the area or just simply got back into the fighting.

"Come on..." I muttered, hoping this would be enough to either finish Maddox off or at least get him out of here. "You know it's over..."

I was sure this wasn't the only place I was needed either, but in case Maddox broke his containment and started attacking people once again, I needed to be ready with the revivals. But hopefully he'd be put down and I could help with revivals elsewhere.

There certainly was no shortage of dead people around, I knew that for sure.
