I feel like smoking is a more serious than fun topic, so here we go. What is your opinion of smoking? Should smoking any kind of cigarette be made illegal? What makes you feel this way?

I work with a lot of people that smoke. Obviously they smoke...off-property, but it's amazing because people whom you don't think smoke actually do.

I personally have nothing against people who smoke. Not at all. It's their choice. I do, though, think it's a disgusting habit to have. At risk of sounding shallow, I would not date someone who smokes (even though I'm married, I'm just speaking in hypotheticals, here). It's nasty. I can't imagine kissing someone who has the taste of tobacco on their breath.

Additionally, I'm glad that awareness is pretty well-spread nowadays in regard to second-hand smoking and being considerate of where and when you smoke (more so than before). Lots of people can and likely will suffer adverse effects just by frequently being around smoke.

Under no circumstance should cigarettes be illegal. I know that was just an extreme example, but even so I find the notion incredibly stupid. That's on almost the same caliber as making alcohol illegal, and we all know how well that turned out.

It's disgusting and I hate it. xD Never smoked in my life. I don't hate people who do smoke, it's their own choice. But I do wish people would realise it is a bad habit, and nothing good can be gained from it.

I'm with you, Sarah, in that I wouldn't date someone who smoked either. One, because they obviously don't respect themselves to be doing that to their own body, and two, because it absolutely stinks. Like I want that horrible smell all over me! 3< I find if I'm walking behind someone who's smoking, or sitting next to a person, I'll inadvertently hold my breath because I don't like it.

I'm so glad it's not legal to smoke inside most places anymore. Better for the food you eat at restaurants, too.

This is truly a very touchy subject, but I don't think that we should tell people what they can't do, even if it is harmful. I do think, however, we should provide more support for those who need help recovering, similar to programs like Alcoholics Anonymous.

But it doesn't just affect the smoker. :o It affects whoever is around you, too. I totally agree with your point, I just want to make sure you're not under the impression that second-hand people don't suffer. x]

You're absolutely right. That's what I meant by "don't do it around me"--I guess I'm meaning don't do it around anyone but yourself. I certainly didn't mean to imply that second-hand smoking victims weren't present--two of my best friend's mothers (different households) when I was, like, 8-16 smoked inside, pack a day. I'd have to endure it whenever I came over. It INFURIATES me when I see mothers, say, pushing a pram down the road smoking while their child is with them, or smoking in a car when they have children - or other people - in the car. It's so stupid. Do. Not. Smoke. Around. Children. -_- My parents have always smoked outside, but I can always smell it when they do it, because it worms its way through some open window or another. It stinks.

I'm glad most places are banning smoking. I think smoking is stupid and I've never done it myself, but if people want to smoke in their backyard or in their own house, that's their choice and I think they should be allowed to. But it shouldn't be in public places where other people and children might breathe in their cancer-causing secondhand smoke and sicknesses.

I've always been anti-smoking. I used to be straight edge, honestly. Now I'm pro-marijuana, although I don't smoke it. I'm very much accepting and inviting of alcohol. But, back on track. I have dated a couple of smokers, and I've always asked that they smoke outside of my home. The only exception was my mother when it was her house, of course. My mother still disrespects my wishes for her not to smoke in my house. Usually arguing with, "Well I helped you pay this bill 8 months ago." Cool, but I've paid that bill ever since, and take your smoking out of my house. This usually sees her leaving my property entirely in a raging huff. I could never stand smoking. It's a disgusting habit that does way more harm than good. I feel so proud of friends and family who quit, and actually tend to spend more time with them after the fact.

However, I won't hate a person for smoking. Just like Xanthe said, don't do it around me. Don't do it in my house. Other than that, we all choose how we want to die. <3

I actually remember the time when I was like, 6 years old. I brought my mother to my class room, and showed her a poster that had a healthy lung on one side, and a smoker's lung on the other. The smokers lung was blackened and kinda shriveled. It offended her so much that she pulled me out of that school. Looking back, I laugh at the whole situation. Like she was actually offended by a fact, and thought it was inappropriate to teach her child this. Like, she's probably the only person I know that's PRO-smoking. This is my fondest memory of Anti-Smoking. It is also where it all started for me.

There is very little more that disgusts me than smoking. The idea that poisoning oneself isn't enough but polluting the air other people breathe makes me sick. The fact that people still do it when it has been made beyond obvious what that s*** does to you, is purely ignorant. Though I won't treat people any differently (unless they start smoking in my house, car, leaving cigarette butts etc), I will in no way shape or form respect their decision to smoke. They are killing themselves and the people around them. There was a Quitline as a few years back where they had a parent and their toddler and the toddler got seperated from the parent in some shops. Within twenty seconds the toddler was a bawling mess. The ad then said 'if your child is like this after losing you for twenty seconds, what will they be like if they lose you forever." I also hate people who smoke with their kids in the car. There is no excuse for poisoning your kids just because you don't mind poisoning yourself to fill a craving.
