Deck Breakdown
The whole point of this deck is to get energy out on the field as fast as you can. That has always been the point of most Fairy decks and Max Elixir is a brand new way to get that energy out without even preforming an attack. Once you get all that energy out on the field then you can do whatever you want. You could simply go with Giratina EX to do a solid 100 damage while preventing your opponent from changing the Stadium, putting down Special Energy or attaching Tools. If you want something that hits like a magical flying double Decker bus then M Gardvoir EX is the way to go.
You may notice that this deck runs a low count of Xerneas compared to Fairy decks in the past. That is because you do not need that third or fourth one in the deck. Starting off with a Xerneas would be great but it won’t be the end of the world. You can start off with any Pokemon (minus Shaymin EX) and then search out a Xerneas by using Ultra Ball or Pokemon Fan Club. Get your hands on a Max Elixir in your first turn to attach a Fairy Energy to your Xerneas. Next simply attach a Fairy Energy to your active Pokemon and use Fairy Garden to freely retreat to your Xerneas to use Geomancy to attach Fairy Energy from your deck to your benched Pokemon. This can all be done on your first turn with the right hand. Just by doing this you already have four Fairy Energy on your field and perfect to use any of your EX Pokemon attackers on your second turn. Either that or simply just keep pulling Fairy Energy out of your deck to hit hard later and to give you plenty of attacking options.
Besides Shaymin EX, you have a few options for digging into your deck. You have Trainers’ Mail to look at your top four cards and grab whatever you need at the moment. This could be a Fairy Garden for free retreat, Max Elixir to try to get more energy on the field, Ultra Ball or Level Ball to search out needed Pokemon like Aromatisse and M Gardevoir (with Ultra Ball), or Max Potion in order to heal a heavily damaged Pokemon. Skyla is in here to grab anything that you need without worrying about the luck factor. Lastly, you have the good old fashion Professor Sycamore and Professor Birch’s Observations to get a new hand. VS Seeker can be quite useful if you want to reuse the previously mentioned Supporters or pull out an old favorite like Lysandre.
Aromatisse is the backbone of this deck. If you don’t have Aromatisse out then you will lose your deck’s lifeblood which is the energy. M Gardevoir EX needs the energy on the field and if most of your energy is on a Pokemon that gets knocked out then Brilliant Arrow loses power. If you are facing against Night March and you want to stop them frozen in their tracks then you will need to switch over to Giratina EX who needs four energy to attack. This could be done simply by attaching a Double Dragon Energy and then using Aromatisse’s Fairy Transfer to move two energy on to Giratina EX. After that you can proceed to use Chaos Wheel to knock out their active Night Marcher and deny them from playing any Double Colorless Energy to attack.
Next, the energy line is amazing. You have enough Fairy Energy in the deck to hit at least one of them most of the time with Max Potion. Though the best part is the Double Dragon Energy which provides two Fairy Energy when you attach it to your Giratina EX. That means you are doing 60 more damage with M Gardevoir EX for a single energy attachment. That is a lot of power for a single card. Especially if you are only hitting 120 damage and you really need to knock out your opponent’s EX Pokemon. All you have to do is just lay down a Double Dragon Energy on to Giratina EX and M Gardevoir EX’s Brilliant Arrow has enough power to slay any nasty Basic EX Pokemon. That is how good Double Dragon Energy is in this deck.
Super Rod is in the deck to reshuffle some cards back into your deck like an Aromatisse line, a M Gardevoir that you discarded early game or Fairy Energy that may have found its way in the discard due to an early game Sycamore or that got in there because one of your Pokemon got knocked out.
If you find yourself in a situation where one of your attackers is close to brink of knock out then you can always use Skyla or Trainers’ Mail to grab a Max Potion. This card may discard all attached energy to the Pokemon that it fully heals but that isn’t a problem. Simply move that energy to another Pokemon and then use Max Potion. All that damage disappear as if it was magic! Next just put that energy back on your Pokemon and get back to attacking. Please note that you can only move Double Dragon Energy on to another Dragon Pokemon. If Double Dragon Energy is attached to any other Pokemon in your deck then it will be discarded. So if you are going to use this energy switcheroo trick with Giratina EX then make sure your second Giratina EX is on your bench.
A key things to know about this deck and that is Max Elixir. This is a powerful card but only if it hits an energy. If it doesn’t hit an energy then you are out of luck because you wasted a card and you got nothing from it. Max Elixir is literally a hit or miss card. It also only works on Basic Pokemon so don’t go around trying to attach Fairy Energy on to Aromatisse or M Gardevoir because it won’t stick.
This deck struggles under Item Lock as most of the Trainers in this deck are Items. That means you can’t use Trainers’ Mail, Max Elixir, Max Potion or any of your Item based search card. You can go without your Gardevoir Spirit Link but you need to make sure you have enough energy on the field to make good use of M Gardevoir EX. Thought that would be difficult if you are under Item Lock because you are praying for the right cards at the right time.
Dark decks can take advantage of Fairy slow start but once you get enough energy on the field, you can just run them over. Just watch out for some surprise Lysandre because they will use that to prey on your Giratina EX who will be holding on to your Double Dragon Energy and perfect for a knock out if two Double Dragon Energy is attached to them. The same goes for Aromatisse who is after all the backbone of your deck.
Another match up you want to avoid? Steel. It literally has weakness against it and Aegislash EX with three Steel Energy can cut this deck up. Three Steel energy attached to Aegislash EX will knock out Gardevoir EX. Four Steel Energy or Three Steel Energy with a Muscle Band attached is enough to knock out M Gardevor EX. Giratina EX can’t even touch Aegislash EX thanks to Double Dragon Energy attached. Why am I mentioning Aegislash EX during Steel? Because most Steel decks play Aegislash EX. There is a way to get around it and that is with Gardevoir EX’s Shining Wind attack. It does 100 damage and gets rid Gardevoir EX’s weakness for a turn. If you do this once then Aegislash EX can’t knock out your Gardevoir EX with one hit. Attack twice and Aegislash EX is gone and your active Gardevoir EX still has no Steel weakness for another turn. Just watch out for Dialga EX’s Full Metal Impact who can knock out your Gardevoir EX with a Muscle Band attached without hitting for weakness.
Max Elixir wasn’t the card that people said would give Fairy max power but it has maximize the power that the deck can dish out! It is really breaking new ground for the deck and combine that with Max Potion then all that energy you pulled out from the deck will be staying on the field for a long time. M Gardevoir EX and Giratina EX love the sound of that because that means it has more energy to use in order to break into the battle and win matches for generations to come. Perfect for a fairy tale that wishes preserve in the waves of time.
