    Facebook

What is your opinion about Facebook?

For me, I think people take it too seriously. xD It's funny when people rant about stuff and post passive-aggressive things. But it also gets draining and stupid and annoying. When people take "likes" seriously... xD

I could easily do without Facebook. But I have my reasons for keeping it.

Well I'm probably the lowest posting active member. All a part of my brilliant strategy to make the few things i post seem good!

I didn't have Facebook previously because I don't see the point in me having one if I don't post anything, but recently I got one because my friends invited me to get one, but only for the purpose of coordinating university stuff together.

My opinion still stands though. I still don't like navigating around it generally. However, what I absolutely hate about it is that some websites require you to have a Facebook account just to access their service, as if everyone actually has one.

I never post on Facebook but it's a good way of organizing events and communicating with large numbers of people. I have basically unfollowed everyone but family so that I never see any posts that are political, whether I agree with them or not. I've found that once you cut down on the posting and the liking (save for special celebrity pages, of course), Facebook really is not as addicting as it once was. Sure, I'll have it open most of the time, but that's more for messenger than anything, and now that I have messenger on my phone, even that is becoming more of a relic of the past.

I have thought about deleting my Facebook, and will probably purge my friends list after I graduate, but have not because it's not very intrusive and much of my family uses it as a primary way to keep in touch with me. Plus The Social Network is basically my favorite live-action film and I want to keep on supporting mah boi Zuckerberg.

Like the rest of you guys, I almost never do anything with my Facebook. It took a while for me to even create an account in the first place, and even after that, I didn't do much with it. I just figured most of the time, it's just a sea of selfies, pictures of pets, babies, or political/controversial rants anyway. Or someone posting stuff that I really just don't care too much about like the new beer they drank that night, a bunch of their vacation pictures (I swear, all beaches look the same), or a picture of their dinner.

Yeah, I also don't like the fact that bosses delve into Facebook accounts prior to or after job interviews. So if you get on Facebook and post a picture of you and your friends just having goofy harmless fun, a hiring manager could see that and jump to conclusions like you're reckless, unprofessional, and assumes that's how you're going to be on the job. And oh boy, if they see you posting political/religious/controversial stuff on Facebook, that's a hundred times worse. My feelings are that if you don't use it for much, you're taking a neutral stance and you can simply reveal only the things you want to reveal to your hiring manager on the job.

But yeah, I wish hiring managers would just stick to looking at LinkedIn instead, but then again, I don't use that very much either. I've spent hours putting together a great profile on LinkedIn with loads of connections and it hasn't done anything for me or improved my job situation...

I have family all over the country so it's an easy way to keep in contact with everyone.

@Neo Emolga And that's why we turn our settings to private. :p Not because I post silly stuff (I don't have a life lol) but because I don't want anyone who's not my friend seeing my stuff.

Also Facebook...meh. I don't really care about it. I'll go on it most days just to check updates and stuff, but I rarely post anymore. Mostly I just like checking out the funny memes that are circling the net these days.

I had a Facebook account for a few years, but as time went by, I was starting to get sick of the drama going on with certain people on my friends list. I was also starting to get jealous of my female friends list entries having wonderful boyfriends and already having children (in all cases out of wedlock). Things only got worse over time. I also hated that certain people would post chain status updates and post "shocking" headlines that turned out to be survey scams (a topic frequently covered by Facebook watchdog blog Facecrooks). Fortunately, I knew better than to fall for those sensational headlines, as well as the "Facebook will soon be charging" rumors that spread like wildfire every once in awhile with the claim that "it was even on the news" (even though no mainstream news outlet reported that such a thing would be happening soon).
I have enough stress in my life now as it is that I don't need Facebook to make it worse.

On the other hand, one of my duties at work is maintaining and posting updates to my workplace's Facebook like page. Although I do this under a different name account, I'm not too crazy about doing this, to be honest.

what I absolutely hate about it is that some websites require you to have a Facebook account just to access their service, as if everyone actually has one.
I hate it when people and companies think that everybody has accounts with a certain service or has access to certain things. By this same concept, I hate that every account confirmation system asks for your mobile phone number. I have a prepaid cellphone, but don't care to give the number out to anybody.

I use Facebook frequently, but I normally just go on there to lurk (I never post and rarely like anything). Like, I always have it pulled up when I'm on the internet but I never really look at it LOL. I basically just see it as a way for someone to message me without my number.

I use it fairly frequently. Every once in a while I have to deactivate it because of drama and/or anxiety, but since I use the messenger quite often I reactivate it pretty quick. :P
