Name Mispronunciations

Okay so my name is Bethan. It's pronounced BETH-an with emphasis on the "beth". It's exactly like Bethany but without the y. I always thought that was obvious, but APPARENTLY NOT. These are the occasions that stick out to me:

• I have a lot of people read my name incorrectly and call me Bethany. Okay, that's fine, no worries. I'll just correct you and we'll move on. However, one teacher at school called me Bethany for the entire 7 years she taught me, regardless of how often I corrected her.
• Beth-ANNE, with emphasis on the "an" sound. It sounds weird and disconnected.
• At school, I had a substitute teacher call me Beef-an. This lead to the nickname Beef Man throughout my entire high school career, which people thought was hilarious since I don't eat meat.
• Yet another teacher called me Bay-than, so my friend started calling me Baethan from that point on (which is actually kinda funny)

At this point, I've given up and tell people to call me Beth. My surname is even worse though. Iley - I've heard ee-lee, ill-ee, uh-lee, il-ay, ee-lay. It's actually eye-lee!

Somehow I've known your name for years (I'm guessing you didn't care if online people knew it or not like me so it was on Pe2K and stuff) and I did always think it was Bethan without the y. But then I was like "Bee-thn?" XD But yeah, omg, that sounds so annoying. Like, what even. BETH-ANNE! HAHAHA oh my gosh that's so silly. Bay-than is ridiculous too. xD And the second I saw your last name, I knew it was eye-lee! Seems pretty obvious to me. xD Like Ilex Forest! /shot

Not even gonna lie, when I first saw your name I had no clue! I met someone called Xanthe a few years ago and she pronounced her name Zanth-uh, so afterwards I thought it was pronounced like that! Obviously her parents had no idea what name they'd given their daughter and told her the wrong thing growing up xD

Maybe I should change my surname to Ilex to celebrate my undying love of the Pokémon franchise
