Yellow Dawn: Rodents and Dittos Event

So, here's a story for the neutral people who just are incredibly confused at what is going on. No? Just me? Oh well.

Theme Song (Be warned, some violence)

"Electric Rodent Regime suffers worst wheat harvest in 55 years...

Labor and food riots in Orre. ERR troops invade...

Fiore and Almia reach troop strength goals of 500,000. Oblivia and Sevii Islands fall...

Yellows Party gains control of Kalos Parliament. Demands withdrawal of legendary Pokemon from continental soil...

    Hoenn plunged into revolution...

    SATO dissolves. Unova stands alone...

Ditto Revolutionaries seize power in several Olivine Pact states...

    Assassinations and terrorism grip ERR...

Conflict becomes global. Neutrality is no longer an option..."

    YELLOW DAWN
    Chapter One...of one probably.

"Unova has always been a continent of conflict. Our very country's founding was marked by the uniting of several warring tribes under the leadership of twin brothers and their mighty Dragon Pokemon," the high school teacher said, pausing to let his students write this all down. "But even this all-too-brief period of harmony could not last as the brothers fell into conflict with one another, arguing over whether "truth" or "ideals" was the more important guiding light for the nation they had worked together to found. Just as their alliance split under the pressure, so too did their Pokemon, creating one black and one white Legendary Pokemon who fought fiercely for what the brothers thought they wanted. Because they shared a same origin in the frustration and single-mindedness of their respective masters, to say nothing of their once shared form, they were evenly matched. The only loser in a contest between the fires of truth and the lightning of ideals was Unova, whose surface became scorched and scarred by one battle after another.

"Eventually this conflict quelled, but in time other issues came to divide the Unovan people, all pursued by those who were convinced that they had the country and its people's best interests at heart. You can see this in today's movement aiming to 'liberate' Pokemon from their trainers. Look at how even this single issue divides people and you will understand why, after the last war, Unova turned away from wholeheartedly pursuing ideals or truths. There is no one-size-fits-all model and to suggest otherwise would be simply..." the bespectacled man trailed off as his gaze became solely focused on the window behind the students. His charges turned themselves to follow his line of sight as the man muttered the final part of his sentence, "...foolhardy." Abandoning his lecture, the man nodded to his class and said, "Please excuse me for a few minutes and remain calm" before exiting the classroom and making his way down the hallway towards the exit.

Normally the absence of their teacher would have caused Mr. Mendel's class to begin chattering eagerly among themselves, but today there was a heaviness in the air underscoring what the students were observing outside. All of them were now crowded by the windows, with any pretense of learning discarded, and were gawking at what they were seeing.

A number of Pokemon had begun descending from the air in parachutes, the ones who already made contact with terra firma were pulling themselves out of their harnesses and pulling out radios, lighting flares, and watching as the descending creatures, all of which appeared to be tinted or colored with some form of yellow, were joined by a number of heavy machines and vehicles also gently drifting to the ground due to the assistance of their own parachutes. Mr. Mendel had made his way outside and was waving towards the closest Pokemon, saying, "Excuse me, what seems to be going on here?"

The small yellow creature looked up sharply and produced a hammer from its uniform before flinging it in a wide arc. The weapon struck the high school history teacher, knocking him to ground with a groan of pain. But his trials had only begun. Once on the ground his body began to morph and change, limbs shrinking, ears lengthening, bones cracking. When the process was complete instead of the friendly fixture of the community there was only a Pikachu with a set of too-large glasses perched on its ears laying in the pile of clothes that the teacher had worn in his former life.

Until his dying day, Ryan had no idea who said it, but a voice inside the classroom rang out, "It's the ERR!" That was when the panic really began. The Electric Pokemon who had landed already turned their sights to the school and, at the Pikachu at the head of the group's mark, raised a series of deadly looking dart guns at the classroom before unleashing a barrage of steel-tipped needles at the windows. The glass shattered under the violent assault and teenage voice both male and female cried out as they were struck, their screams rising in pitch and losing any human characteristics as the Pika Flu contained within the syringes made them into various Electric-type Pokemon. Ryan managed to avoid getting hit, but was not out of the classroom before he heard the cries of many of his classmates, some of which he had grown up with all his life, as their identities were forever transformed.

Along with a small coterie of students, he made his way to the main entrance of the school, only for the group to stop dead in its tracks when a squadron of Plusle and Minun stormed through the doorway hefting a powerful-looking rocket launcher on top of their small bodies. With a roar, a rocket fired down the middle of the group, barely missing hitting any of the terrified humans, and knocking the dozen or so Pokemon who had fired it backwards at the recoil. It exploded against a wall of lockers and began leaking an ominous yellow cloud that hung low to the ground but rapidly began to fill the hallways along with the screams and confused squeaks of Ryan and the others' peers.

"We have to get out of here!" another boy, Caleb, Ryan thought, yelled. "I have my car in the parking lot by the lunch room!" With a clear goal in mind the group, reduced even more by the chaos of the attack, moved its way to the now-abandoned common area and cafeteria. With twin grunts, Ryan and Caleb shoved against the doors, which only were supposed to unlock before or after school, causing the heavy doors to open even as the fire alarm was set off. The harsh blare and flashing light of the alarm only added to the air of panic.

The teens stumbled out into the parking lot into a vision of more chaos. Tanks were rumbling toward the school from over the football field, airplanes roared in the skies above, and a trio of heliocopters were off in the horizon but coming closer, their rotors growing louder. The cacophony of war grew louder and louder. Above it all was a voice, amplified by a megaphone. While at first it was a series of squeaks and "chus", after a second or two, a mechanical-sounding human voice followed, translating what had been said for what little human audience remained. "DO NOT PANIC!" came the voice. "THE ERR IS OCCUPYING THIS TERRITORY FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLEE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIGHT. THIS IS NECESSARY TO PREVENT DITTO ENCROACHMENT." The message repeated itself over and over again even as far off in the distance a yellow mushroom cloud rose in the distance and a wave of wind swept over the battlefield, sending a few confused Dedenne paratroopers off-course.

"Come on, my car's over here!" Caleb called out again, once more rallying the troops. Ryan wondered how they were all going to fit in a single vehicle when he realized that there were only four of them, three boys and a girl. He gulped at the horrifying thought that they were all that was left, and struggled to keep that dread down as the all-too-small group creeped slowly and carefully to the station wagon Caleb called his own.

The older boy opened the door carefully and moved behind the wheel all-while staying low to the ground. Once he was in place, he motioned for the other kids to join him. They all made it into the car's interior without a hitch, but when the driver turned the key, the engine belched to life and all ERR eyes were suddenly on the vehicle.

"Floor it!" the final boy in the group shouted and Caleb was more than happy to oblige, shifting the car into drive and slamming his foot on the gas. The car took off squealing down the road, even as ERR soldiers peppered it with darts and the voice on the megaphone repeated ad nauseum, "DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLEE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIGHT. THIS IS NECESSARY TO PREVENT DITTO ENCROACHMENT."

As the school shrank in the distance, Ryan chanced a look backwards at the building. They had made it out of there somehow, but what dangers and horrors were ahead?
