Fate's Banners and Stuff ('Cause He Needs a Thread)

Well, I've been at it for...about six years, on and off, I think. Though I've been really lazy at making banners in the last few years. Not even ten hours combined.

I started off making simple banners with pop-out renders, but I've become boring and just stick with a rectangle now. Not as interesting, but they do look more polished. And I used to do text on my banners, but I just had such a hard time with it because I just couldn't be satisfied with any text I made, so I stopped. But I'll do it again someday. I am totally not gonna show you guys any of my old things, so don't you dare ask. Nowadays if I make anything, I'm usually just experimenting with some new technique to learn something different.

Anyway, I'll just dump a few things here from the last few years. I've done sooo little banner-making, though, that there are only about four things right now.

I really oughta push you to make more banners, you used to do some pretty cool things with them like make the subject pop out of the frame! And I think at one point you made some Gardevoir stuff for me and IT WAS REALLY PRETTY, but I think that used to be on my old netbook that's been wiped clean.

What the heck are these filters, I want to use them on my actual art too. AAAAAAA

Thannkkkss! I think I kinda remember that Gardevoir thing? I certainly don't have it anymore.

And yeah, I don't do the subject-popping-out-of-frame style anymore. =( I grew to dislike it because it was hard to focus. I don't like making my renders look separate from the background now. I prefer to blend them in and make them be part of the overall image.

And I'm not exactly sure what filters I use. xD I use lightings and brushes, mostly. Unless you wanna point out which part in which banner, specifically.

Where do you find the images for these banners because they're awesome! I'm so envious of how skilled you are with these because they look beautiful. What do you use to make these?

I feel like I should just grab everyone out of this section of the forum and just learn. These banners are GORGEOUS and you make me to attempt making them again haha. I really like how they blend in with the backgrounds you chose. I'd really like to see how you'd attempt a small poster or something similar. It would be pretty awesome too see. Speaking of which, who is the character in the third panel? It screams Sora to me, but i have a feeling its not. lol

Aww, that's sweet of you to say. ='D I had a site where I would download renders people submitted (both official art and fan art), but something's happened to it, so I can't use it anymore. Other than that it's just googling "<character name> png" and, in certain cases, rendering them myself. Though sometimes I'll get really lazy and just...build around an image eithout rendering it, but thats more trouble than it's worth. And I use Photoshop for my stuff. CS...some number or whatever. 5?

Thanks! You totally should pick it up again. xP I'm not sure how well I'd do with larger things. I'm kind of lazy and large canvases kill my motivation. And that's Sora, all right! Characters are--from top to bottom--Accelerator, Sorey, Sora, Emil Castagnier.

I really like your Sora banner! I love how you blend the renders into the background. There's different ways of making banners, of course, you can make the renders "pop" as ESPER said. Which I used to do also. xD However I prefer to blend them in, because there's a lot more skill involved to make that seamless transition.

Anyway! I like your choice of colours, and you don't make them overly-vivid like some people tend to do. Awesome work, Fatey! .u.

These are definitely awesome. I'm not sure who the characters are, but that third one is probably my favorite. The colors, effects, and background really pop and come together nicely. :D

I know you said you made these a while ago, but it would be cool to see what you can do now and how you've improved. If you make anything new, let us know!
