Was it the hardware that got wrecked or something software related? I had a desktop where the whole dang motherboard had something seriously wrong with it.

Too much malware

You could still backup your good stuff, reformat, and reinstall everything. It's a long process, but it at least gets your computer back up and kicking once again. Unless of course your computer was so old to the point where it's just not worth it. I've had that happen before.
