Shield put in a FARFETCH'D, not parasect. He doesn't have to put the pokemon he fought with in the gym. Also Shield has ten minutes to finish his post before it is ignored. You only waited 3 minutes before posting again and didn't even bother to make sure he'd actually finished. Because you weren't patient enough, you attacked something that wasn't there, making your move void.
