The battle was long and hard-fought, but in the end, Zenith still lost. It had been close, but her pokemon hadn't been strong enough. She was disappointed, but knew she had done her best. She smiled at Max. "That was a great battle, Max. You're a really good trainer. I wouldn't expect any less from a Champion, though."

Zenith followed Max to the Pewter City Gym. It appeared very simple; a red brick building with a shingled roof. A sign hung next to the door explaining the rules.

Zenith continued to stare at the building for a little while, then headed inside with Max. This is it... it's my time to show what I've got as a trainer. I can't let my family down... or myself. It's time to either sink or swim, she thought.

About an hour and a half later, Zenith stepped out of the Pewter Gym. She smiled widely and took a deep breath. "I did it!" she exclaimed happily.

Zenith had no way to describe how she felt except for elated. She was so happy to have won her first gym battle. Relief flowed through her at the weight being lifted off her shoulders. She waited outside the gym with Max, who had finished his battle before hers.

"Man, that was a complete rush!" Zenith said. "I had no idea how I'd do, but I managed to beat Brock! I can't wait to tell my parents!"

A little while past and finally Zenith appeared. The overall excited trainer rushed out celebrating.

"Great job!" Max smiled. "If you came that close to beating me, you'll do fine against gym leaders." He said jokingly. "I'm heading to the Pokemon Center..you wanna come with Champ in the making ?"

Zenith smiled at Max's words. "Thanks, Max. And sure, we need to get our pokemon healed. After that I guess we'll just have to wait on the others."

Zenith headed toward the Pokemon Center with Max and went up to the counter, handing over her pokemon to the nurse. She took one of the free bottles of water for trainers and sat down at a table. She opened the bottle of water and took a big gulp. She sighed in relief and wiped her mouth.

"One down, seven to go...." Zenith muttered, looking down at her new Boulder Badge. A few minutes, Zenith was called to pick up her pokemon, and she went up to the counter. She took everyone's Poke Balls and put them on her belt. She then sat down at the table again, just wanting to relax and think about her victory over the Pewter City gym.

At the pokemon center Max finally had time to check on the status of his pokemon. To his surprise a couple had grown stronger and a couple more evolved as he was congratulating them. He greeted Marill and Charmeleon with open arms.
"Lila you are getting strong! and look at you Wrecker! " He said holding the happy little mouse type. He put down Marill picking up the now evolved Kakuna. The solid block just leered at the others. Max carefully put the metamorphoses pokemon in his bag carefully.

Max joined Zenith he pulled out a Map.
"I'm not to familiar with the region but it looks like we need to go through Mt. Moon to connect to ...." He paused he cheeks becoming a little flush. " ...Cerulean City" He said regaining his composure.



As the two sat there there attention was drawn to the sound of a young boy arguing with three trainers. The older trainer circled the boy and were just laughing at him.
