Pokemon Collaborates Horror Manga Artist Junji Ito

Here is a little something to get you into the Halloween spirit. It has been recently announced that The Pokemon Company International in Japan has decided to collaborate with Junji Ito. This manga artist is famous for his works like Gyo which is about a fish who walks using metal legs powered “Death Stench”. Another one of his works is called Uzumaki which features a town that is obsessed with spirals and eventually all turned into snails.

In this collaboration, Ito will be drawing his interpretation of some Ghost type Pokemon within the Pokemon universe. In the teaser image above, a horrifying Banette is stalking a sweet little girl who is lovingly holding her doll. The Pokemon Company in Japan is offering this image as a wallpaper and t-shirts. This is exclusive only in Japan.

Ito has plenty of lore to draw upon if he is featuring only Ghost types. Just based on Pokedex entries, there is Gengar who hides in your shadow to steal your heat and lays a curse upon you. The Chandelure line features Pokedex entries where it sucks up the spirits of people who are unfortunate enough to cross paths with them. Lastly, you have Yamask who carries the face of their past selves which evolves in Cofagrigus who entraps people within it’s body. Sounds like Ito is in his element working with Pokemon on this collaboration.
